Speculative Fiction Reading Challenge 2010
As I haven't seen many challenges for speculative fiction, I thought I would host one myself. The Speculative Fiction Reading Challenge can include young adult as well as adult books. There are many genres and sub-genres under the umbrella of 'speculative fiction' and I have listed them below. Enjoy, have fun and hopefully you will discover a new genre or author along the way. Buttons and guidelines are below as well.

Timeline: 1st Jan 2010~ 31st Dec 2010. Only books started on January 1st count towards this challenge.
Details:
1. Anyone can join. You don't need a blog to participate.
2. There are four levels:
• Inquisitive – Read 3 Speculative Fiction novels.
• Enthusiastic – Read 6 Speculative Fiction novels.
• Addicted – Read 12 Speculative Fiction novels.
• Obsessed – Read 24 Speculative Fiction novels.
3. Any book format counts.
4. You don't have to select your books ahead of time, you can just add them as you go. Also if you do list them upfront then you can change them, nothing is set in stone!
5. The books you choose can crossover into other challenges you have on the go.
6. If you decide to participate in this challenge please use the links I have set up below with the buttons to post on your sidebar, this way others can find their way back to this post and join in the fun.

lovely challenge,thanks sugar
Come pick up your award! http://lafemmereaders.blogspot.com/2009/12/blog-monster-award.html
All signed up. Love the buttons.
I don't normally read any of the listed genre or sub-genre so the word "challenge" becomes a double entendre. I'm looking forward to figuring out what to read as well as the actual reading itself. Thanks for the challenge.
Please don't think up any more challenges. I'm now in eleven. I don't seem to be able to turn any of them down!
I think my books listed for next year fall in this category, Joe Abercrombie, Steven Erickson, and there are others. I think I can do this challenge. It will be my first!
Okay, I have signed up! I am going to work on my blog this evening with some books on the list. I am looking forward to this one!
I found the Internet Speculative Fiction Database and there is a big crossover with the sci fi genre. It will mix nicely with the sci fi challenge. I just may join your challenge after all.
I'm in! Fantasy is my first love! Thanks for hosting!
I'd like to give this a try. We post links to our reviews, right? (new to all this newfangled internet stuff)
Hi all!
Thanks for signing up - should be a fun challenge!
Mardel: This is just the sign up page. When the challenge begins in Jan there will be a page where you can link up your reviews monthly :)
*rubs hands together* Count me in!
Sounds like a fun challenge, I'm in! :)
I can't wait to start on this challenge! :)
All signed up.
The post link is correct but the wording for name has the title of a book that I just posted on another site...oops.
I always do this...Sorry!
Having written my own book in this genre, I'm now reading a dearth of novels in it. This challenge should fit in perfectly with the new titles I'll be receiving for Christmas!
What a great Challenge! I'm in for three, but my do more.
And I love your naturally pink neon hairdo.
I love a challenge - I'm in!!
i am so into this..cant wait to start.. ('',)
Yay, two challenges within one day!
Just a quick question, translations are okay, right? (Including the Typically British challenge - I have about 200 books each in Hungarian.)
Translations are fine as long as the books are written by a British author :)
I've joined the challenge and I'm going to start at the Addicted level and see how it goes!
Thrillers are my love
I just signed up, not sure what level I'll be doing though.
I'm in on this one. Already have all my books picked out too!
I'm in at the Obsessed level.
I am definitely Obsessed! :)
Just signed up for the challenge and I will definitely be going for obsessed with this one!
I'm in for this one....can't wait!
Oh! BTW, I adore you....just in general, but right now because you put the code out with your buttons. That makes my html challenged brain so much happier!
Hi! I have signed up under the "Addicted" catagory. Happy Reading!
Does the Host by Stephanie Meyer count?
Its about aliens who take over the world in the name of peace. They call themselves "souls"
I'm shooting for addicted, though obsessed certainly fits the bill. lol
Deidre
Amanda-Lee, I would definitely categorize The Host as speculative. It's really good too, once you get into the story.
Deidre
wonderful...thankyou...ive already attempted to read it once...but i couldnt get into it at all...ill try again in the name of speculative fiction hehe
I read a lot of fantasy so I'll go with 3. And we'll see how it works out. Btw, these challenges are addictive. :)
I'm taking the plunge! Looking forward to participating in this challenge. Oh, and I also have an award for you: http://polishoutlander.com/?p=817
Cheers!
Thanks to you, I'm now a blogger! Your challenges were the final straw. I'll be doing the fantasy genre at the obsessed level and science fiction at addicted. Thank you!

Rachelle (Bibliobabe)
I figured this would happen-- I've already read 13 books of speculative fiction, so I'm moving up to obsessed!
Very much interested in this challenge. Just finished signing up for the mystery/suspense one also. What can I say? I love books. #1 book that I want to read during this challenge is Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs and #2 is Bullet by Laurell K. Hamilton.
Woot! I'm excited for this challenge. I tried to resist joining, but just couldn't!
Hey Peeps! What's everyone's favorite Speculative Fiction so far?
Have a great day every one!
Kate (aka YzhaBella's BookShelf)
Hey there,
I loved participating in your Thriller and Suspense Challenge so much, I'm going to do this one now. Perhaps at the 12 books (Obsessed) level.
thanks again,
Ha! I'm joining this one so late! But I realized I had several books on my TBR that would fit in, so I decided to give it a try. I'm enjoying the Thriller & Suspense challenge already. :)
I finished the challenge!

I'm getting a late start. I'm going to aim for "inquisitive" and hopefully get farther than that. Thanks for hosting! ^-^
Well, I hope I hold true and really be "Obsessed".
Obsessed! This will be fun. ^.^
This is the second challenge hosted by your I've joined. And I'm tempted to join a third. Just got to think whether I'm taking on more than I can handle. :-)
