All Hallow’s Eve: Chat, Live Q&A & Giveaway with Georgia Evans [NOW CLOSED]
by Carolyn • Posted in Uncategorized
Today I welcome Georgia Evans (aka Rosemary Laurey), author of the WW2 paranormal series. There are three books in the series so far and you have the chance to win a SIGNED copy of book one, Bloody Good. So make sure you enter the contest at the end of the interview! Georgia will also be around all day to answer your questions, so fire away!
BCC: Hi Georgia, welcome to Book Chick City, it’s a pleasure to have you here. What made you decide to write a WW2 story with Vampires as the Nazis? This is quite a unique take on the genre.
GE: The idea came up after a brainstorming between myself and my editor. She wanted a WW2 book and suggested the vamps as the villains. German spies seemed the perfect answer.
BCC: Why did you choose to change the main protagonist with each book?
GE: I planned a trilogy but wanted a different central couple in each story. Also there was so many people I had a generous cast to deal with.
BCC: Have you always been interested in the paranormal?
GE: To be honest, no. I started working on my first vamp book in 1998 and got hooked!
BCC: What are you working on at the moment?
GE: Another WW2 book – this one set in Vichy France in the spring of 1941 that has vampires – including Jude Clarendon from the Bloody books – and another paranormal, a contemporary with Devon Pixies and shape shifting bears in the deeps of the Virginia mountains.
BCC: Do you find it difficult to write such explicit love scenes? I must admit I did blush at times!
GE: Actually I find them fun. After all, if two people, in good health, are attracted to each other and have strong feelings, it pretty much come naturally to them. Especially in a time of war with the ever awareness you could be dead in the morning. I think there is a strong sense of snatching what happiness you can.
BCC: Where and when to you like to write?
GE: I have a work room upstairs next door to the bedroom. Always write there. Editing I usually do in the kitchen.
BCC: Have you had a ghostly encounter or a scary experience that you can share with us?
GE: Not exactly scary but we have someone in our house. I don’t talk about her very much as it tends to upset her, but she had made herself very apparent at times. Mind you she did once unlock a door and set the burglar alarm off – that did scare the willies out of me. But she never did it again, I think she realised how it freaked me out. I called out the cops thinking someone was in the house!
BCC: How do you celebrate Halloween?
GE: I give out candy to the children who come around.
Thanks Georgia!
Georgia will be answering your questions today, so please leave your questions in the comments section.

questions for the author: does the story reflect what really happened in WW2? How did you go about researching all the events that had happened? Is there a vampire Hitler somewhere in the story?

That's a great interview. I liked the one about the sex scenes as I always wondered with how much ease authors write them.

Well, since I wasn't born until 1946, I can't claim actual memories of wartime, but I did grow up with stories from my mother aunts and grandmother. I based the setting on that- plus a lot of help from friends a few years older who do remember. And some good reference books and contemporary diaries and essays. – See the bibliography on my web site form them
A Vampire Hitler! I shudder at the thought!

Favourite character? Sheesh it's like being asked which of my sons is my favourite.
It tends to be the one I'm writing at the time I'm asked.
Right now that would be Ella, the heroine of my current wip Ancient ways.. She's a young american woman stranded in France at the outbreak of war, finds herself taking three Jewish children across Vichy France into Spainn and on the way hooks up with a band of vampires.

have not read Midnight GUardian. yet
I saw the interview on Patricia's vamp blog and reserved it at the library .
Why did I write about WW2? My editor asked me to. but I found it fascinating.. Partly, I think because I heard so much about it growing up. For my mother and her generation is was a traumatic chunk out of their lives.

Georgia, I'm curious–if there was any other fictional vampire out there that your characters could have a cross-over with (without fear of copyright infringement), who would it be?

Well there never are enough hours in the day are there? But since writing is how I earn my living I have to find time for it. I do tend to do several things simultaneously.
Fir example today I'm editing and polishing a novella I need to hand in on Friday, keeping up with Book Chick City, doing washing, unpacking a suitcase from last weekend, getting ready for a book signing I'm doing this Saturday, and at some point I'm going to have to attack the bathroom wash basin with a plumber's friend as the drain is blocked.
Life is never slow or dull around here

For Georgia:
Love the name Georgia btw… my friends lil girl's name.
When given an idea to start with… i.e. WW2 / vamps do you find it restrictive, or does it make ideas come easier if you have a base?
Reply
@ PArajunkie.
No ti's not restrictive. after all WW2 and enemy vamps is a pretty big canvas to start with.
Plus it's a period that I find very very interestitng..

I've been thinking about this question and honestly, can't think of one that stands out particularly
Reply
@donna
No that does take some thinking.. Just one???
I think 28th March 1917, the day women got the vote
and what would I change? I'd have them get it on the same terms as men at the time.. but it was a major leap forward.
Getting preachy here but I do think some young women these days don't fully understand what efforts were entailed in getting women equal rights .
