New Blogs on the Block: Carla from The Crooked Shelf

Carla
1. When and why did you start blogging?
I set my blog up in June this year and it started off as “Secret Dreamworld of a Bookaholic”. I did around 3 posts and then gave up. I tried to convince myself it was because I was too busy, but really, I was just being lazy. In September I decided now was the time to start it up again, and for the love of all things Shiver, I called my blog The Crooked Shelf. It may just be me, but I love this name and I love my little blog universe. Books are my favourite thing, even over chocolate and none of my friends are readers (boooo!!) so having somewhere I can talk about books I love with other bookaholics is what its all about for me and is the main reason I started.

2. Tell us a little about your blog?
Well, is just little old me chatting away about books I love, books I am sure I am going to love and books that don’t float my boat. I’m mainly a young adult fan, so anything from that genre I will be guaranteed to give a shot. My reading age is stuck at 14, so books about boys who can wield swords, who sparkle in the sun or turn into wolves in the cold are my favourite kind. I don’t just review new releases, if there’s a book that’s been out months or years and I loved it, I’m going to want to talk about it, so my blog is where I release all of my book loving.
3. Are there any features on your blog you would like to highlight?
I don’t really have my own feature per se, but now I’m thinking I need one. I tend just to post whatever I’m loving at the time. I follow WoW and IMM posts, which are always fun, but make me have serious book envy at peoples posts and make my money evaporate.
4. What's been the high point of blogging so far?
Getting to know all the lovely bloggers out there, everyone has been really nice. I love it when someone pots a comment on one of my reviews and says they’re going to go get the book, makes me feel like superwoman. I get to see what books people have bought and get ideas for future reads. I get to talk endlessly about books I love and books I hate. I’ve made some really good friends that I wouldn’t have met if it wasn’t for my blog.
5. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I‘m a bookaholic blogger in the day and fight crime at night. No, seriously, I do; have you not seen my outfit?! I’m a little bit crazy when it comes to books, no one is allowed to touch my bookcase and I don’t borrow books out. I live in the UK and am a clean freak. P.S dont tell anyone about my secret identity, I like to keep it on the hush hush.

Carla keeping our streets clean!
6. What's your favourite book of all time?
Without a doubt its got to be The Time Travellers Wife. How that woman came up with that idea is beyond me. This book absolutely destroyed me in a good way, if that’s even possible, and has stayed with me even five years after I first read it. I met Audrey a few weeks ago, and I just stared at her in fan girl glee. The story is so extraordinary and unique, I don’t think any book will ever come close to such perfectness.
7. Who are your favourite authors?
Audrey Niffenegger, Maggie Stiefvater, Cassandra Clare and Rachel Vincent
8. How many books are on your tbr list right now?
Erm….31, yeah, did I say I order books when I already own too many to handle. My house is like alien invasion, only with books.

9. Where do you see your blog in a year from now?
Hopefully as a place people can go to read my crazy rambling reviews and drool worthy books to look out for. I do hope I will still be spreading the book love, with lots more amazing reads under my belt.
Thanks Carla!

Awesome interview. I love The Crooked Shelf, so it's great to read more about Carla - who is *seriously* funny. I bet quite a few blogs started up because the blogger's real-life friends aren't readers.
Great interview and I love the photos, Batgirl!
I love The Crooked Shelf, too - it's an excellent site.
What a fun girl! You can tell she is someone that is lighthearted and doesn't take herself too seriously. LOVE the batgirl costume! Great interview!
Yay Carla! <3 you dude!
Hahaha glad you likey!!
Carolyn, thanks so much for putting this up, you rock my socks off <3
This was so entertaining to read. I love the revelation of Carla's alter-ego.
Great interview! I love learning new things about bloggers because I'm nosey like that! ;)
ps: 35 unread books in not bad at all, I actually find that managebeale! :)
Wonderful interview!
I also don't loan out books. I am too picky on how they should be treated! :P
I love your blog, btw. :)
I need to check out Carla's blog - she sounds hilarious!
Carla is a delight to know. And when she's not riding her Batgirl Cycle and keeping the streets clear of fictional villians, she's v v funny on twitter. Check out her blog and her tweets!!
Thanks for introducing me to another great blogger! Great fun!
Great interview!! So fun learning about fellow book bloggers. I loved Time Travelers Wife as well, however I wanted to throw the book over that ending. GAH! :)
I love the secret identity!
