Christmas Week: BCC's Top 10 Christmas Movies!

Yay! Christmas Week has arrived! Christmas Day is fastly approaching *woo hoo* and there's lots to look forward to here on Book Chick City. So sit back with a glass of mulled wine and a delicious mince pie and enjoy!

I love Christmas and I love movies. And when I was a kid they went hand in hand. I would spend the morning rippng open all my presents in five minutes flat, stuffing myself full of chocolate until I felt sick, still managing to eat my Christmas dinner, then settling down in the afternoon to a fab Christmas movie. Bliss. Nowadays it's a bit different: get up prepare dinner, cook dinner, eat dinner, bed. Well, maybe that's not totally true. My hubby and I always have our own little Christmas before anyone arrives. So we spend an hour opening presents and after dinner I do get to chill out a bit in the afternoon. But now, when I'm full, I tend to fall asleep! Most of my movie watching happens on Boxing Day.

Anyhoo, here is the list of my top ten Christmas movies. As always I can't really rate them, so they are just my favourites in no particular order:

1. Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

Cast: Sir Richard Attenborough, Dylan McDermott, Elizabeth Perkins, and Mara Wilson
Director: Les Mayfield

2. It's a Wonderful Life (1946)

Cast: James Stewart, Donna Reed, Lionel Barrymore,
Director: Frank Capra

3. Home Alone (1990)

Cast: Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern
Director: Chris Columbus

4. The Polar Express

Cast: Tom Hanks
Director: Robert Zemeckis

5. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Cast: Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, Juliette Lewis, Johnny Galecki, John Randolph
Director: Jeremiah S. Chechik

6. Scrooged

Cast: Bill Murray, John Forsythe, Carol Kane, David Johansen, Karen Allen
Director: Richard Donner

7. The Santa Clause

Cast: Tim Allen, Judge Reinhold, Wendy Crewson, Eric Lloyd, David Krumholtz
Director: John Pasquin

8. Santa Claus: The Movie

Cast: Dudley Moore, John Lithgow, David Huddleston, Burgess Meredith, Judy Cornwell
Director: Jeannot Szwarc

9. Beauty and the Beast: The Enchaned Christmas

Cast: Paige O'Hara, Robby Benson, Jerry Orbach, David Ogden Stiers, Bernadette Peters
Director: Andrew Knight

10. White Christmas

Cast: Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, Dean Jagger, Vera-Ellen
Director: Michael Curtiz

What are your Christmas favourites?

I keep planning on posting my top ten Christmas movies like I did with songs but I love so many of them that it's really hard to narrow it down.

You have a lot of my faves on your list, especially White Christmas, Miracle on 34th Street, and Christmas Vacation. Of course, I pretty much love ALL Christmas movies!

Speaking of Christmas Vacation, check out my favorite fictional character post on Clark Griswold. http://thetruebookaddict.blogspot.com/2009/12/favorite-fictional-character-clark.html

What a great post! As corny as it sounds, The Muppet Christmas Carol is one of my favorites. I just don't tire of it.

Love them all, except maybe home alone. The kid drove me crazy. White Christmas is my get me in the mood, tree decorating movie. And Polar Express - I could watch that one all year round. Great list of movies. Thanks.
