On My Wishlist #5

On My Wishlist is a weekly meme hosted by me, which will be posted every Wednesday. It allows us to share the books we haven't bought yet but are waiting to be bought and devoured. If you are anything like me then your wishlist is getting longer by the day! If you would like to take part and have your own 'On My Wishlist' post then you can find more info here. (This post was inspired by the fab In My Mailbox by Kristi at The Story Siren).

The entire Allie Beckstrom series sounds great and another series of covers I think are great too. I'm hoping to read this soon.
Magic to the Bone (#1)
Devon Monk (Roc)
Publication Date: 4 Nov 2008
Paperback: 368 pages
Genre: Fantasy
Summary (Goodreads)
Using magic means it uses you back, and every spell exacts a price from its user. But some people get out of it by Offloading the cost of magic onto an innocent. Then it’s Allison Beckstrom’s job to identify the spell-caster. Allie would rather live a hand-to-mouth existence than accept the family fortune—and the strings that come with it. But when she finds a boy dying from a magical Offload that has her father’s signature all over it, Allie is thrown back into his world of black magic. And the forces she calls on in her quest for the truth will make her capable of things that some will do anything to control...
Books in Series Order:

This sounds so good and the cover is just awesome! I love a good zombie novel! I first saw this on someone's blog and was drawn to the cover but then put off as I thought it was about WW2 or something like that, but then I read the synopsis and thought, ooh that's a book for me!
Boneshaker
Cherie Priest (Tor Books)
Publication Date: 29 Sept 2009
Paperback: 416 pages
Genre: Sci-Fi/Seampunk/YA
Summary (Goodreads)
In the early days of the Civil War, rumors of gold in the frozen Klondike brought hordes of newcomers to the Pacific Northwest. Anxious to compete, Russian prospectors commissioned inventor Leviticus Blue to create a great machine that could mine through Alaska’s ice. Thus was Dr. Blue’s Incredible Bone-Shaking Drill Engine born. But on its first test run the Boneshaker went terribly awry, destroying several blocks of downtown Seattle and unearthing a subterranean vein of blight gas that turned anyone who breathed it into the living dead.
Now it is sixteen years later, and a wall has been built to enclose the devastated and toxic city. Just beyond it lives Blue’s widow, Briar Wilkes. Life is hard with a ruined reputation and a teenaged boy to support, but she and Ezekiel are managing. Until Ezekiel undertakes a secret crusade to rewrite history. His quest will take him under the wall and into a city teeming with ravenous undead, air pirates, criminal overlords, and heavily armed refugees. And only Briar can bring him out alive.

This Demon Hunter series looks like so much fun. One of the things that drew me to the book was the quote by Charliane Harris on the front cover "Shows you what would happen if Buffy got married and kept her past a secret." I love Buffy, so can't wait to get this one!
Carpe Demon (#1)
Julie Kenner (Jove Books)
Publication Date: 27th June 2006
Paperback: 368 pages
Genre: Fantasy
Summary (Goodreads)
Retired demon hunter Kate Connor must go back to work when she spots a demon lurking in the local Wal-Mart. But she'd better not arouse suspicion. This kind of thing could really hurt her husband's political career.
Books in Series Order:
1. Carpe Demon
4. Deja Demon
Well, that's on my wishlist, what's on yours?

The first 2 are on my list as well and it looks like I am going to have to add that third one. I LOVE Buffy.
I would advise against Magic to the Bone.
Instead of following the plot I started counting the sentences starting with "I". 5 in a row is nothing unusual :-(
I love Devon Monk's series... each book just gets better and better =)))
great post!
Carpe Demon looks funny, I will have to read more about it from goodreads or something. :)
hwm - Oh no, sorry you didn't like it. Thanks for the heads up but I know I will still buy it and try it, I can't help myself lol, plus I always like to try a book out for myself.
Magic to the Bone looks good!
Carpe Demon sounds cute.
I have asked for Boneshaker for Christmas. It does look fabulous.
I liked Carpe Demon but I couldn't really get into the sequel when I tried to read it. Arch Enemy by Frank Beddor is at the top of my wishlist.
Magic to the Bone was great. A little dark, but gripping & original. It was hard to believe that this was her first book. I love the series (I think I love the 3rd one the best, but I've thought that after reading each one, lol). The other two are on my Goodreads "to be read" list -- I think I may even own Carpe Demon already...I have to go look at my book piles now.....
I love the Allie Beckstrom series. I hope you enjoy
I like the sound of all three I think I may already have the first but if not will have to add them for sure to my list!
Wow, even though our book genre tastes differ I always enjoy your wishlist posts. These covers are really beautiful!! Especially the Devon Monk one...
Ooh, nice picks! Especially Boneshaker - a most excellent choice. One of my favorite reads of 2009. :)
Loving # 1 & 3. Adding them to my buy list. Have a great week :)
All those books sound good.
love on my wishlist! Am taking part on my blog.
