On My Wishlist #10

On My Wishlist is a weekly event hosted by Book Chick City. It allows us to share the books we haven't bought yet but are waiting to be bought and devoured. If you are anything like me then your wishlist is getting longer by the day! If you would like to take part and have your own 'On My Wishlist' post then you can find more info here. (This post was inspired by the fab In My Mailbox by Kristi at The Story Siren).

** On My Wishlist is moving to Saturdays starting 6th Feb!**

This has a good cover, I think I like it. Sounds like a great read though, just up my alley! ;)

Pretty When She Dies
Rhiannon Frater (CreateSpace)
Publication Date: 24 Nov 2008
Paperback: 384 pages
Genre: Horror
Tags: Vampires

Goodreads Summary:

Amaliya wakes under the forest floor, disoriented, famished and confused. She digs out of the shallow grave and realizes she is hungry... in a new, horrific, unimaginable way... Sating her great hunger, she discovers that she is now a vampire, the bloodthirsty creature of legend. She has no choice but to flee from her old life and travels across Texas. Her new hunger spurs her to leave a wake of death and blood behind her as she struggles with her new nature.

All the while, her creator is watching. He is ancient, he is powerful, and what's worse is that he's a necromancer. He has the power to force the dead to do his bidding. Amaliya realizes she is but a pawn in a twisted game, and her only hope for survival is to seek out one of her own kind. But if Amaliya finds another vampire, will it mean her salvation... or her death?

I can't remember where I found this series but it was quite a while ago. I really like the cover and the book sounds really good too! I think I read somewhere that the author is starting book three. I'd better get cracking so I'm all up to date :)

Black Magic Woman
Justin Gustainis (Solaris)
Publication Date: 29 Jan 2008
Paperback: 336 pages
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Tags: Witches

Goodreads Summary:

Occult investigator Quincey Morris and his "consultant", white witch Libby Chastain, are hired to free a family from a deadly curse that appears to date back to the Salem witch trials. Fraught with danger, the trail finds them stalking the mysterious occult underworlds of Boston, San Francisco, New Orleans and New York, searching out the root of the curse. After surviving a series of terrifying attempts on their lives, the two find themselves drawn inexorably towards Salem itself - the very heart of darkness.

I came across this series a little while ago, but I really took notice when Natasha from Wicked Little Pixie reviewed them as she gave them great ratings. The first was already on my Amazon wishlist, (of which I have 13 pages and it's taking me forever to transfer to Goodreads!), but now the whole series has been added. They all sound like fun reads.

Happy Hour of the Damned
Mark Henry (Kensington)
Publication Date: 1 March 2008
Paperback: 291 pages
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Tags: Zombies

Summary (Goodreads)

Seattle. One minute you're drinking a vanilla breve, the next, some creepy old dude is breathing on you, turning you into a zombie. And that's just for starters. Now, the recently deceased Amanda Feral is trying to make her way through Seattle's undead scene with style (mortuary-grade makeup, six-inch stilettos, Balenciaga handbag on sale) while satisfying her craving for human flesh (Don't judge. And no, not like chicken.) and decent vodkatinis.

Making her way through a dangerous world of cloud-doped bloodsuckers, reapers, horny and horned devils, werewolves, celebrities, and PR-obsessed shapeshifters--not to mention an extremely hot bartender named Ricardo--isn't easy. And the minute one of Amanda's undead friends disappears after texting the word, "help" (The undead--so dramatic!) she knows the afterlife is about to get really ugly.

Something sinister is at hand. Someone or something is hellbent on turning Seattle's undead underworld into a place of true terror. And this time, Amanda may meet a fate a lot worse than death...

Mhm, I want number 3 for sure. I had fun with number 2, but the sequel was a major disappointment. The first, I am not so sure about. If someone had to stick this in my hands, I will be most likely to read, but otherwise I am actively off vampires.

And Saturdays now? It would fit in my new blog schedule perfectly.

Hearing a lot about the Mark Henry books...

The Gustainis book, even though UF is not my fave genre really sounds great! I am putting that one on my list!

Hugs,
Pearl

It seems that everyone gets a little weirded out that Mark Henry writes books with a female protag, but it's this very reason that makes his books so appealing to me! great list
