On My Wishlist #8

On My Wishlist is a weekly meme hosted by Book Chick City, which will be posted every Wednesday. It allows us to share the books we haven't bought yet but are waiting to be bought and devoured. If you are anything like me then your wishlist is getting longer by the day! If you would like to take part and have your own 'On My Wishlist' post then you can find more info here. (This post was inspired by the fab In My Mailbox by Kristi at The Story Siren).

I came across this series (Nobel Dead) over at Kmont's place, Lurv a la Mode, a while back and thought it sounded really good, the cover is pretty cool too.

Dhampir
Barb Hendee and J.C. Hendee (ROC)
Publication Date: 7 Jan 2003
Paperback: 376 pages
Genre: Dark Fantasy
Tags: Vampires

Summary (Goodreads)

Magiere has earned a reputation as the most formidable vampire slayer in the land. Villagers far and wide welcome her with both awe and disdain, grateful to her for ridding their towns of the undead menace, but finding themselves made poorer for their salvation. Magiere has always known she's dealing with simple folk who only wish to have their superstitions silenced, and she's never seen anything wrong with exploiting them for profit.

Now, tired of the game, Magiere and her partner, the half-elf Leesil, are ready to hang up their weapons and settle down in a place they can finally call home. But their new found peace will not last. For Magiere has come to the attention of a trio of powerful and dangerous vampires who recognize her true identity — even if she does not — and who fear the birthright that flows through her veins. And they will stop at nothing to keep Magiere from fulfilling her destiny.

I have wanted this one for a while after seeing it on the Gollancz catalogue. I must say it does sound really intriguing and it is the first book in The Dog-Faced Gods Trilogy (try saying that fast!). I'm not liking the cover though.

A Matter of Blood
Sarah Pinborough (Gollancz)
Publication Date: 18 March 2010
Paperback: 488 pages
Genre: Supernatural Thriller

Summary (Goodreads)

The recession that grips the world has left it exhausted. Crime is rising in every major city. Financial institutions across the world have collapsed, and most governments are now in debt to The Bank, a company created by the world's wealthiest men. But Detective Inspector Cass Jones has enough on his plate without worrying about the world at large. His marriage is crumbling, he's haunted by the deeds of his past, and he's got the high-profile shooting of two schoolboys to solve - not to mention tracking down a serial killer who calls himself the Man of Flies.

Then Cass Jones' personal world is thrown into disarray when his brother shoots his own wife and child before committing suicide - leaving Cass implicated in their deaths. And when he starts seeing silent visions of his dead brother, it's time for the suspended DI to go on the hunt himself - only to discover that all three cases are linked ...As Jones is forced to examine his own family history, three questions keep reappearing: what disturbed his brother so badly in his final few weeks? Who are the shadowy people behind The Bank? And, most importantly, what do they want with DI Cass Jones?

This is the first novel in the Dark Days series. I can't remember where I found this one, but it sounds great - can't say I'm loving this cover either...

Nightwalker
Jocelynn Drake (Eos)

Paperback: 370 pages
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Tags: Vampires

Summary (Goodreads)

For centuries Mira has been a nightwalker—an unstoppable enforcer for a mysterious organization that manipulates earth-shaking events from the darkest shadows. But elemental mastery over fire sets her apart from others of her night-prowling breed... and may be all that prevents her doom. The foe she now faces is human: the vampire hunter called Danaus, who has already destroyed so many undead. For Mira, the time has come to hunt... or be hunted.

I like the sound of the Nobel Dead series. I have Nightwalker in my TBR pile, I was so lucky that I won it through a contest.

This Wednesday feature is great! I'm going to do this next week over on Dirty Sexy Books and add it to your list. A Matter of Blood sounds super dark. Those all-red covers just scream 'horror inside.'

I have the Dark Days series on my list as well. I'll be sure to add Dhampir though sounds very good.

My father loves the Dhampir series. My father is usually the one to suggest to me the best urban fantasy novels. He rocks.
