I’m pleased to be here at Book Chick City today talking about my favorite romantic moments. Thank you so much for inviting me Carolyn.
Being a true romance junkie, I love the thought of a big tough hero turning to marshmallow for his mate and not caring who knows it. So, I’ve decided to share a few of my favorites romantic scenes from J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood. I can’t think of a better example of the tough guy turning sweet marshmallow for love.
We all know know the Brothers of the Black Dagger Brotherhood are sexy beasts. But they are also violent, and indulge in many vices. One would think this would make them undesirable heroes but when they love, they love big and somehow their less than gentlemanly habits seem less offensive. They bond with their females fully and completely and honor them by reserving a special part of themselves only for their mates.
My first example of this special kind of romance is a scene with Wrath and Beth. There’s nothing sexier than when a man associates a pleasant smell or taste with the one he loves. When he compares her to something sweet and delectable. How romantic is the thought that he might catch the scent while away from his love and it brings her instantly to his mind. That when he tastes something as simple as a peach, it brings forth memories and feelings for his beloved.
Wrath to Beth:
“Do you know what you taste like?”… “Peaches…Like eating peaches.
“Just like peaches…” “And I love peaches.”
What’s more romantic than overcoming what seems like impossible odds, finally becoming all that you’ve ever wanted to be and sharing the moment with with the one person you love more than your own life?
Phury had just blown apart the whole spiritual fabric of the race…as well as the biological one…And Cormina was there to share his moment:
With a cry, she gathered her gorgeous pale lavender robe and ran toward him, tears streaming down her cheeks.
…”I love you,” she choked out. “I love you, I love you…I love you.”
In that moment, with the world that was his in transformation, and his shellan safely in his arms he felt something he never would have imagined.
Phury finally felt like the hero he had always wanted to be.
The Brothers are not strangers to loss and John Mathew is no exception. Although he does not believe Xhex returns his feelings, he knows he loves her without question. When he believes he has lost her, he decides that he, and he alone will bring her back:
Here was the thing: Xhex was his female, whether she wanted to be or not. …He was going to avenge her. …He was going to bring her home safe…
I think one of the saddest books in the BDB series was Lover Unbound. I hoped with all my heart that Vishous would not go through with wiping out Jane’s memory and was crushed when he did. Thank goodness it’s a romance novel though and Vishous came back for her. Jane is sitting in the car and feels like something is wrong. Something she just can’t remember. Then the man from her dreams appears. She doesn’t know if he’s real.
“Are you real?”
“How do I know?”…
“Jane…” he breathed. “I’m so sorry—“…
…”I’m not getting mated.”
Her breath stopped. “You aren’t?”
He shook his head. “I couldn’t do it. I can’t be with anyone but you.”…
V chose love over tradition.
Zadist and Bella are perhaps one of the most loved couples in the BDB series and they had much to overcome. Z sets out to make himself better, take better care of himself, and learn to read and write before he sees Bella again after their separation. Sometimes it comes down to three words:
His hand was shaking as he held it out. “it’s messy.”
Bella took the paper. In a child’s uneven block letters there were three words:
“I LOVE YOU”
And Z’s response to Bella’s revelation that she loves him:
“I was dead until you found me, though I breathed. I was sightless though I could see. And then you came…and I was awakened.
And of course Z’s reaction to the news he was to become a father:
Suddenly he stopped. “Are you sure you want my young?”
“Oh yes. Oh, dear Virgin, yes. Even more…” She smiled up at him. Took his hand. Placed it on her lower belly.
“You’re going to make a wonderful father.”
And that was when he fell over in a dead faint.
He fainted! Now is that’s not swoon worthy I don’t know what is.
I suppose I could go on and on. These are only a few moments within the series that made my heart go pitter patter. What are your favorite romantic Black Dagger Brotherhood scenes? Or, your favorite romantic scenes from any book or series?
