In My Mailbox (#27)

In My Mailbox is hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren
Hi everone!! I have had an absolutely fantastic week for books! I received 15 for review and one that I won via a twitter contest. I bought none again this week - I know it's becoming a bit of a habit! I am really looking forward to reading all these books but I must admit I'm very excited about Blonde Bombshell, The Price, Oath of Fealty and The Last Stormlord :D
I'm not sure if you remember me telling you, but for the last few weeks I've had a reoccurring sports injury to my neck and I haven't been able to read at all, until last week where I would read for about fifteen minutes at a time. Well, it is so much better! Yay! Having physio 3-4 times each week helped and now I can read! Of course, if I over do it, it starts to ache a bit and I have to stop but for the most part I'm back to normal. Thanks so much for all the get well wishes x
For Review:

The Last Stormlord

Shale knows of no other world than the desert. He knows that his life - and the lives of his family - depend on one thing and one thing only: water. Water is life for all the citizens of the Quartern and it is the Stormlord who brings the rains to the desert. But the magic is disappearing. The Stormlord's heirs lack the talent to bring the water from the distant seas and young students with a certain promise tend to die, mysteriously, out in the wastes. Shale may be the saviour of every life in the Quartern. He can do what no mere Rainlord can, and may be the newest, and the last, Stormlord - if he can learn to control the waters of life and, of course, if he lives that long. Shale's entire civilization stands at the brink of disaster. Water is life and the wells are going dry...

Going Bovine
Libba Bray (Delacorte Press)
Publication Date: 22 Sept 2009
Hardback: 477 pages
Genre: Fantasy
Tags: Young Adult
Goodreads Summary:
Cameron Smith, 16, is slumming through high school, overshadowed by a sister “pre-majoring in perfection,” while working (ineptly) at the Buddha Burger. Then something happens to make him the focus of his family's attention: he contracts mad cow disease. What takes place after he is hospitalized is either that a gorgeous angel persuades him to search for a cure that will also save the world, or that he has a vivid hallucination brought on by the disease.
Either way, what readers have is an absurdist comedy in which Cameron, Gonzo (a neurotic dwarf) and Balder (a Norse god cursed to appear as a yard gnome) go on a quixotic road trip during which they learn about string theory, wormholes and true love en route to Disney World. Bray's surreal humor may surprise fans of her historical fantasies about Gemma Doyle, as she trains her satirical eye on modern education, American materialism and religious cults (the smoothie-drinking members of the Church of Everlasting Satisfaction and Snack 'N' Bowl). Offer this to fans of Douglas Adams's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy seeking more inspired lunacy.

Oath of Fealty
Elizabeth Moon (Orbit)
Publication Date: 4 March 2010

Amazon Summary:
A death has made Kieri Phelan king of Lyona. Here humans and elves live in uneasy peace, united only by their failure to see the dangers at their borders. Harmony has never been more important - or elusive. But will Kieri's soldier background allow him to navigate these difficult politics? And can he awaken the powers his mixed blood confers? An older evil also threatens, affecting not just Lyona but all surrounding kingships.
The Verrakai family has been practicing forbidden blood magic for generations, and its scions are becoming bold. When they infiltrate a foreign court and assassinate key nobles, it's clear they must be controlled or eradicated. Phelan will send Dorrin, the only Verrakai he can truly trust, on this mission. She must overcome her abhorrence of the power that is her birthright and awaken her own hidden magic. This will lead to secrets and a mystery that neither Phelan nor Dorrin could have anticipated.

As Sarah begins to reaquaint herself with her relatives and learn more about the culture she came from, she discovers a secret that stretches across three generations, its presence looming over the family home. Personal boundaries are firmly drawn in traditional Kyoto, and actions are not always what they appear. In this carefully articulated world, where every look and gesture has meaning, Sarah must learn the rules by which her mother, aunts and grandmother live.
