Where Stories Are Made is a new feature here at Book Chick City. It’s where the author takes us on a tour of their writing place, be it an office, coffee shop or park and tells us about their writing day and rituals. My guest today is Ilona Andrews…

I was born with scoliosis, like my father, but unlike him, I managed to escape curved spine by starting competitive swimming at the age of six. Unfortunately, as I got older, my back is increasingly unwilling to take the strain of sitting in a chair. I tend to lean forward when I write, and after a session, when one of my kids walks on my back, I sound like firecrackers. To alleviate this problem, my husband and kids bought me the recliner and wireless keyboard. And that’s where I write.

I have my coffee or tea by me, usually a scented candle – there is just something about it that puts me at ease, and the small blue dragon keeps me company. There is not really much more to say about it. I get up, eat, drink coffee, answer emails, and then I work. I don’t have any specific rituals except for making and consuming large amounts of tea while making words happen.

Comfy chairs are a must for writing. Oh, but I have a question for Ilona: what's it like to write with your husband???

I thought having arthritis hurt, OUCH!!! Love the fact though that you never stopped writing Larissa and that you family has done their part to support your efforts in making things more comfy. Love the fact that your process is so simple and produces such wonderful works for us fans.
Thanks for letting us have a "glimpse" today BCC and Larissa, nice look into a "day in the life"!

What a fabulous feature! I love it. I can sympathize with Ms. Andrews. I do most of my blog writing (aka 'butt-time') in a glider with my feet up. I can't sit at a regular desk with my curved back either. Thank goodness for laptops (and copious amounts of tea).
