NEW CHICK AT BCC!

As you know, in March I had a some time out to recharge the batteries and obtain a buffer for my reviews (rather than reading and reviewing a book the same week). Laura was one of the lovely guest reviewers who helped me out. She wrote three fab reviews and I really liked her voice and writing style. After chatting with her via email I liked her even more, so I asked if she would be a permanent guest reviewer at BCC, and luckily she said yes!

You will see Laura popping in twice a month with some really fab reviews. I’m very excited to work with her and look forward to reading her thoughts on lots of great forthcoming books! So, please welcome Laura…

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

I live in Berkshire in the UK, with my bike and barbecue obsessed husband, two cats and large dog who I’ve been advised should really be re-classed as a pony.

My love of books began young, born from the imagination of Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl, as well with the calamitous adventures of Mildred Hubble, Jill Murphy’s ‘Worst Witch.’

Books really are an obsession for me, and I have to ward of panic attacks if I don’t at least have a small pile of books in my to read pile. It causes more than a few storage issues, and it’s not unheard of for me to have to pay excess baggage for the mini library I always insist on taking on holiday.

My book tastes vary, but I’m a huge supernatural, horror and urban fantasy fan and can’t resist a good love story. My favourite authors include: Kelley Armstrong, Patricia Briggs, Anne Bishop, Kim Harrison, Laurell K Hamilton, Rachel Vincent, Carrie Vaughn, Sherrilyn Kennyon, Charlaine Harris and Ilona Andrews, honestly the list really could go on and on. It’s also worth mentioning Audrey Niffeneger for the magnificent ‘Time Traveller’s Wife’.

I’ve recently purchased an ereader and believe it to be the best thing since sliced bread. Now I no longer need to worry about how I can cram two or three books into my handbag, I can take three hundred with me instead. What more does a girl need? Other than shoes, make up, sparkly jewellery and of course chocolate.

Laura is a girl after my own heart… I loved Worst Witch by Jill Murphy as a kid and we seem to have very similar tastes in adult books too! We are also classically trained singers, share the love of shopping *particularly for shoes* and the sin that is chocolate!

Laura’s first ‘official’ review will be up next Wednesday (21st) and she will be reviewing Shift by Rachel Vincent!

Welcome to Book Chick City, Laura!!

NEW FEATURES!

As you probably know by now, I’m always trying to think up new ideas and features to keep BCC fresh. I have two new features beginning in May.

The first is ‘A Blogger’s Bookshelf‘ which will feature a different blogger each time, talking through their bookshelves and showing them off with a few photos. I can tell you they are fab and I’m green with envy!

The second is ‘My Favourite Books with…‘ which will feature a blogger or author talking about their favourite books. This is a great way to find new books to add to those already mountainous tbr piles!

I hope you like and enjoy the new features – I will have a schedule post up soon so you can see who’s up and when :)

HOUSE OF NIGHT WEEK!

Also, just a little reminder that I’m hosting my ‘House of Night’ week beginning 23rd April. I will be reviewing the entire series as well as the upcoming seventh book, Burned (if I receive it in time!) and there will be guest posts from two die-hard fans who will tell you why they love the HoN series. I am also hoping for an interview with P. C. Cast for you to enjoy, the questions have been sent, so fingers crossed they will be returned in time for the celebratory week.

Thank you to Twoscoopz for designing the HoN banner, I think she did a great job… but then she always does!

I am glad to learn that Enid Blyton was one of your inspirations as you were growing up as a child. I too was enamored by Enid Blyton's books. Thus, my love for Enid Blyton and her books led me into writing and publishing a book on her, titled, The Famous five: A Personal Anecdotage (www.bbotw.com).
