On My Wishlist #19

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It’s where I list all the books I desperately want but haven’t actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. It’s also an event that you can join in with too – Mr Linky is always at the ready for you to link your own ‘On My Wishlist’ post. If you want to know more click here. (Idea inspired by The Story Siren)

I’ve seen this book a few times around the web and I think it looks and sounds pretty good.

A Devil in the Details (Jesse James Dawson #1)
K. A. Stewart (Roc)
Publication Date: 6 July 2010
Hardback: 368 pages
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Goodreads Summary:

Jesse James Dawson was an ordinary guy (well, an ordinary guy with a black belt in karate), until the day he learned his brother had made a bargain with a demon. Jesse discovered there was only one way to save his brother: put up his own soul as collateral, and fight the demon to the death.

Jesse lived to free his brother–and became part of a loose organization of Champions who put their own souls on the line to help those who get in over their heads with demons. But now experienced Champions are losing battles at a much higher rate than usual. Someone has changed the game. And if Jesse can’t figure out the new rules, his next battle may be his last… (added by author)

I really like the sound of this book as it has quite an original summary and it intrigues me. I just *love* the cover too, I think it’s gorgeous. This is the first book in the Darkborn Trilogy.

Darkborn
Alison Sinclair (Roc)
Publication Date: 5 May 2009
Paperback: 352 pages
Genre: Fantasy

Goodreads Summary:

For the Darkborn, sunlight kills. For the Lightborn, darkness is fatal. Living under a centuries-old curse, the Darkborn and the Lightborn share the city of Minhorne, coexisting in an uneasy equilibrium but never interacting. When Darkborn physician Balthasar Hearne finds a pregnant fugitive on his doorstep just before sunrise, he has no choice but to take her in.

Tercelle Amberley’s betrothed is a powerful Darkborn nobleman, but her illicit lover came to her through the daytime. When she gives birth to twin boys, they can see, something unheard of among the Darkborn. When men come for the boys, Balthasar is saved by the intervention of his Lightborn neighbor—and healed by the hands of his wife, Telmaine. Soon he finds himself drawn deeper into political intrigue and magical attacks, while Telmaine must confront a power she can no longer keep sheathed in gloves, a power she neither wants nor can control.

Books in Series Order:

2. Lightborn (June 2010)

I have wanted a copy of this book for a long time. It was actually #2 in my Top Ten Most Anticipated Reads last year for 2010, so I can’t wait for this to be released. I love me some zombie! ;)

Feed (Newsflesh #1)
Mira Grant (Orbit)
Publication Date: 27 April 2010
Paperback: 608 pages
Genre: Horror

Goodreads Summary:

The year was 2014. We had cured cancer. We had beat the common cold. But in doing so we created something new, something terrible that no one could stop. The infection spread, virus blocks taking over bodies and minds with one, unstoppable command: FEED.

NOW, twenty years after the Rising, Georgia and Shaun Mason are on the trail of the biggest story of their lives-the dark conspiracy behind the infected. The truth will out, even if it kills them.

So that’s my wishlist this week – what’s on yours?

Darkborn is rather unconventional. I reviewed it last year, and the plot kind of stuck with me. It's not perfect, but it's unique.

I'm with you on FEED. I can't wait either. I think Seanan is going to blast it out of the park (sorry, baseball seasons has started, and I'm heavy in the sports talk now)
