Samuel ‘Sailor’ Doyle has transferred from Vice to Homicide in the Virginia State Police. He has a mistress, an alcohol problem, a prescription drug dependency, and a burgeoning self-loathing that alienates his wife and family. On Friday 3 July, the rookie investigator is assigned to a double homicide on a rural farm some 15 miles outside Richmond. One of the victims has been interred in a makeshift tomb, while the other is stuck half-in, half-out of a hope chest overflowing with cat litter. And the farm is covered with dead bodies: dozens of cats, sheep, goats, cows, and one dead horse. The mentally handicapped daughter of the victims, Carl and Claire Bruckner, is missing. Doyle soon discovers that Bruckner was a Marine captain who lost his leg in Vietnam thanks to the incompetence of his commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Lake – now retired General Robert Lake, and Republican Party presidential hopeful, who will be speaking in Richmond on July fourth – the following evening. What Doyle fails to realise as he follows the various clues is that wherever he goes, he is spreading disease – and not just any disease, but Yersinia pestis. The plague. Is the dead Marine planning revenge, even from beyond the grave?

This is a series that I have wanted to read for a while after seeing it around the blogosphere. This is the UK cover and I think it’s great. All the UK covers for this series I think are really good.
Bitten & Smitten (Immortality Bites #1)
Michelle Rowen (Gollancz)
Publication Date: July 2010 (UK)
Paperback: 224 pages
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Goodreads Summary:
Sarah Dearly has had a bad date. What else would you call being buried alive before dessert? Not to mention that bite mark on her neck, and the creepy way her date keeps saying that he’s sired her. Then those guys with the stakes show up and turn her date into so much dust! Sarah runs for her life, only to be rescued by a tall, dark, and handsome stranger. Sure, she interrupts him as he’s about to throw himself off a bridge – but as far as rescuers go, Thierry de Bennicoeur will have to do. Only problem is their age difference. He’s a six-hundred-year-old vamp with a death wish. She’s a new kid on the block with a need for someone with experience to show her the ropes. And to keep her one step ahead from the vampire hunters that are in town to rid Toronto of the `monsters’. Sarah doesn’t know what to make of all this. Sure, she’s got a healthy hankering for blood lately, but she doesn’t feel like a monster. Just an unemployed girl looking for love. Even if the object of her affection—Thierry—can’t go out in the sun for very long.

This is another historical romance series I have just started and I’m really enjoying it. The first book, Secrets of a Summer Night, was so good – will be reviewing that one soon too!
It Happened in Autumn (Wallflowers #2)
Lisa Kleypas (Piatkus)
Publication Date: Sept 2010 (UK)
Paperback: 320 pages
Genre: Historical Romance
Goodreads Summary:
It Happened at the Ball…
Where beautiful but bold Lillian Bowman quickly learned that her independent American ways weren’t entirely “the thing.” And the most disapproving of all was insufferable, snobbish, and impossible Marcus, Lord Westcliff, London’s most eligible aristocrat.
It Happened in the Garden…
When Marcus shockingly — and dangerously-swept her into his arms. Lillian was overcome with a consuming passion for a man she didn’t even like. Time stood still; it was as if no one else existed – thank goodness they weren’t caught very nearly in the act!
It Happened One Autumn…
Marcus was a man in charge of his own emotions, a bedrock of stability. But with Lillian, every touch was exquisite torture, every kiss an enticement for more. Yet how could he consider taking a woman so blatantly unsuitable – as his bride?
So that’s what’s on my wishlist this week, what’s on yours?
