On My Wishlist (#25)

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It’s where I list all the books I desperately want but haven’t actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. It’s also an event that you can join in with too – Mr Linky is always at the ready for you to link your own ‘On My Wishlist’ post. If you want to know more click here.

How cute does this book sound?! I really enjoy a light mystery series and with the addition of paranormal it is irresistible to me ;)

The Trouble With Magic (A Bewitching Mystery #1)
Madelyn Alt (Berkley Prime Crime)
Publication Date: Jan 2006 (US)
Genre: Paranormal Mystery

Goodreads Summary:

Antiques-shop clerk Maggie O’Neill was a little weirded out when she discovered her new boss Felicity was a witch. But when Felicity becomes the suspect in a local murder, Maggie must enlist Felicity’s wiccan friends for help–and discover her own spellbinding talent.

Doesn’t this sound good? I haven’t read many books in the romantic suspense genre, so looking forward to hopefully reading this some day. Has anyone read it?

Black Ice (Ice #1)
Anne Stuart (Mira)
Publication Date: May 2005 (US)
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Goodreads Summary:

The job was a killer. Living paycheck to paycheck in Paris, American book translator Chloe Underwood would give anything for some excitement and passion — even a little danger. So when she’s offered a lucrative weekend gig translating at a business conference in a remote chateau, she jumps at the chance to shake things up.

Then by chance Chloe discovers her employers are anything but the entrepreneurs they appear, and suddenly she knows far too much. Her clients are illegal arms dealers, and one of them is ordered to kill her. But instead, Bastien Toussaint drags Chloe away, and the next thing she knows she’s on the run with the most terrifying and seductive man she’s ever met. What were his motives — and would she live long enough to find out?

I am still on a HUGE historical romance phase right now and I don’t see it stopping any time soon. Since reading my first historical romance, Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase, and only one of five or so romance books I’ve ever read, I haven’t been able to resist reading them – I have bought so many and now several have been added to my wishlist!

Revealed
Kate Noble (Berkley)
Publication Date: March 2010 (US)
Genre: Historical Romance

Goodreads Summary:

Phillippa Benning is the unrivaled beauty of the Season. But when another lady challenges her for a marquis’s attentions, Phillippa entices him to a secret rendezvous only to stumble upon The Blue Raven, England’s most famous spy, lurking at the site of her planned tryst.

The Blue Raven has uncovered an enemy plot directed at upcoming society functions, but he’s unable to infiltrate London society. Phillippa makes an offer: in exchange for entry among the ton, he agrees to have his true identity revealed at the Benning Ball guaranteeing her unrivaled notoriety. As the danger draws closer, the mysterious spy and Phillippa give in to mutual desire. But when the game turns deadly, betrayal waits around the corner, and Phillippa must decide once and for all is it the myth that captured her heart, or the man?

I’m loving this cover! This sounds like a steamy historical romance. Having just started to read the genre, I haven’t read this author before.

Knight of Passion
Margaret Mallory (Forever)
Publication Date: July 2010 (US)
Genre: Historical Romance

Goodreads Summary:

HOW CAN THIS PASSIONATE KNIGHT…
Renowned beauty Lady Linnet is torn between two desires: revenge on those who destroyed her family or marriage to her childhood sweetheart Sir James Rayburn. One fateful night, she makes a misguided choice: she sacrifices Jamie’s love for a chance at vengeance.

TRUST A BEAUTY WITH A PAST?
Jamie Rayburn returns to England in search of a virtuous wife-only to find the lovely Linnet as bewitching as ever. Their reckless affair ignites anew, even hotter than before, although Jamie vows to never again trust her with his heart. Then just as Linnet begins to make amends, she’s tempted by one last opportunity to settle old scores. But a final retribution could cost her Jamie’s love – this time forever.

I love starting a new series and when I saw this cover – which I think totally rocks btw – I had to put it on my wishlist asap! It sounds brilliant!

Blood Law (Alexandra Sabian #1)
Jeannie Holmes (Dell)
Publication Date: July 2010 (US)
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Goodreads Summary:

To stop a vampire killer, she’ll have to slay her own demons first. A provocative and savvy vampire, Alexandra Sabian moves to the sleepy hamlet of Jefferson, Mississippi—population 6,000, half vampires—to escape the demons lurking in her past. As an enforcer for the Federal Bureau of Preternatural Investigations (FBPI), Alex must maintain the uneasy peace between her kind and humans, including Jefferson’s bigoted sheriff, who’d be happy to see all vampires banished from town. Then really dead vamps start turning up—beheaded, crucified, and defanged, the same gruesome manner in which Alex’s father was murdered decades ago. For Alex, the professional has become way too personal.

Things get even more complicated when the FBPI sends in some unnervingly sexy backup: Alex’s onetime mentor, lover, and fiancé, Varik Baudelaire. Still stinging from the betrayal that ended their short-lived engagement, Alex is determined not to give in to the temptation that soon threatens to short-circuit her investigation. But as the vamp body count grows and the public panic level rises, Varik may be Alex’s only hope to stop a relentless killer who’s got his own score to settle and his own bloody past to put right.

I know I go on about covers, but this one is just awesome! I have had my eye on this book for a while now.

Blood Song (Bloodsinger #1)
Cat Adams (Tor)
Publication Date: June 2010 (US)
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Goodreads Summary:

Bodyguard Celia Graves plies her trade in a world where vampires roam the alleys of Tinseltown and movie stars openly practice witchcraft., where streetcorner psychics have real powers and cops use memory enhancement spells on witnesses. Though she’s an ordinary human, Celia uses street smarts and charmed weapons to protect the rich and famous from mortal and supernatural threats. She’s landed a plum job, protecting the Prince of a small but politically vital nation while he tours Los Angeles’s least savory hot spots. What should be a routine assignment goes badly wrong. Attacked by a master vampire, Celia knows she is about to die.

She’s startled to awaken on a cold metal table in a university lab. Celia Graves has become an Abomination, neither fully mortal nor fully vampire. Her “master” is hunting her, to destroy her or finish what his bite began. She’s accused of murder and the cops aren’t sure whether she should be locked up or staked. And then there’s the demon she glimpsed during the vampire attack. Struggling to cope with her new powers and trying not to terrify everyone she meets with a flash of fang, Celia reaches out for help from her once (and future?) lover, who is a powerful mage; his warrior-priest brother; a handsome werewolf who keeps his lupine nature concealed from the world; an elderly clairvoyant, and one trustworthy cop. Celia Graves has three days to save the world, her sanity, and her soul.

This looks like such a great YA novel. I’ve only read the first book in the Garnet Lacey series by Hallaway (adult), which I really liked, so I’m very excited to see this one. Loving the cover too!

Almost To Die For (A Vampire Princess of St Paul #1)
Tate Hallaway (NAL Trade)
Publication Date: Aug 2010 (US)
Reading Level: Young Adult
Genre: Paranormal

Goodreads Summary:

On her sixteenth birthday, Anastasija Parker’s present winds up being the shock of a lifetime. When her mom referred to her absentee dad as a deadbeat it was actually half true — he’s a vampire. And a king, no less. A king who wants his daughter to assume her rightful position at his side. But, thanks to Ana’s mother, the blood of a witch also runs through her veins… Too bad vampires and witches are mortal enemies.

With her parents gearing up for an all out brawl over her destiny, Ana’s about ready to scream. But things get even crazier when a male witch and a brooding bad boy vampire start vying for her affection. Then the barely leashed tension between the vampires and the witches starts to boil over, and Ana has to figure out once and for all if she wants to become heir to her dad’s throne. And deciding your eternal destiny is a pretty big deal for a girl who just wants to get through high school.

••••••••••••••••••••••

This sounds really interesting.

Trance

Linda Gerber (NAL Trade)
Publication Date: Oct 2010 (US)
Reading Level: Young Adult
Genre: Paranormal

Goodreads Summary:

It begins with a subtle vibration, a tingling. There is time to take only one breath. The trance begins. When it is through, Ashlyn is certain of two things: Someone she knows is about to die. And she is powerless to stop it.

If you want to try a really good historical romance author…try Stephanie Laurence. She has a long standing series that feature the Cynsters so make sure you find the beginning story. They don't have to be read in order but the characters sometimes make cameo appearances so it helps to know who's who.
