PUBLISHER EVENT: Simon & Schuster Get-together!
A couple of weeks ago I attended the first blogger/publisher get-together at Simon and Schuster. It was great meeting up again with Jenny from Wondrous Reads (who I met first to have a book natter), Liz from My Favourite Books, Sophie from So Many Books, So Little TIme, Sassy from Alternative Reads, among others. I also got to meet the lovely Ally (Marketing/Web Manager) who I email on a regular basis, especially with regards to the Thriller & Suspense Reading Challenge I’m hosting.
Sophie, Me, Sassy & Jenny

Jenny, Liz & Me

So, once we all arrived at the London offices we were shown a film of some fab upcoming titles. The one’s that excited me the most were: The Obelisk by Howard Gordon (Jan 2011), The Survivor by Sean Slater (March 2011), Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick (Oct 2010), The Night of the Solstice by L. J. Smith (Sept 2010) and Hellhole by Brian Herbert & Kevin J. Anderson (Oct 2010).
Following the film we listened to a few questions and answers from a panel consisting of the Publishing Director, Suzanne Baboneau, Fictional Editor, Maxine Hithcock and Sarah-Jade, Sales Manager. It was very interesting, but I didn’t write any of it down so can’t relay it here.
Paige Toon, Chris Carter, Me & Tara Hyland

We were then taken to another room where we met authors Paige Toon, Chris Carter and Tara Hyland who were all very lovely. They also signed their books for me!
The Crucifix Killer by Chris Carter

Daughters of Fortune by Tara Hyland

Pictures of Lily by Paige Toon

There was also lots of naughty party food such as chocolate rolls, crisps and cupcakes (which I managed to resist) and Pimms (but I stuck to water). We were then given huge canvas bags and told to fill them to the brim with lots of yummy books! Which I did, twice…well there were too many books to fit into one bag, what’s a girl to do?!
Here are my goodies:
Zombies & Vampires!

YA, Historical, Fantasy & PNR!

Crime & Thriller!

And some swag…who doesn’t like a bit of swag

It really was a lovely afternoon. Thank you to Ally for organising such a wonderful event and to all the staff at Simon & Schuster, it was really great to meet you all.

Wow, that looks like a great event. I like those small intimate publisher meetings where you get to learn about the new books coming out…and meet the people behind the books.
