On My Wishlist (#32)

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It's where I list all the books I desperately want but haven't actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. It's also an event that you can join in with too - Mr Linky is always at the ready for you to link your own 'On My Wishlist' post. If you want to know more click here.

This sounds and looks pretty good - although the guy on the cover looks creepy!

The Hunt (Laws of the Blood #1))
Susan Sizemore (ACE)
Publication Date: Oct 1999 (US)
Genre: Fantasy

Goodreads Summary:

They are the Enforcers--an elite group of vampires who must serve and protect their secret community--and uphold the Laws of the Blood. In Los Angeles, Enforcer Selim has been called upon to approve a hunt to appease the vampires' hunger. He must not waver or show weakness. His life and the life of his mortal love depend on it.

Love the cover, love the synopsis - this is definitely high up on my book buying list! :)

Black Dust Mambo (Hoodoo #1))
Adrian Phoenix (ACE)
Publication Date: June 2010 (US)
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Goodreads Summary:

Kallie Riviere, a fiery Cajun hoodoo apprentice with a talent for trouble, finds herself smack-dab in the middle of one of those times her mentor warned her about when she visits New Orleans to attend the Hecatean Alliance's annual carnival: her hard-bodied conjurer hookup ends up dead in her blood-drenched bed. And he was killed by something that Kallie would never dream of touching -- the darkest of dark juju, soul-eating juju -- a black dust hex that may have been meant to kill her.

Now Kallie has to use every bit of hoodoo knowledge and bayou-bred mojo she possesses to clear her own name and find the killer -- even as that dark sorcerer hunts Kallie and her friends. But Kallie's search for the truth soon leads her in a direction she never anticipated -- back home to Bayou Cypres Noir, and to Gabrielle LaRue, Kallie's aunt, protector, and hoodoo mentor . . . who is looking more and more like she just might be the one who wants Kallie dead.

This looks so good, I am loving the cover - gorgeous, and by the summary it's sounds quite intriguing - me want! :)

Steel
Carrie Vaughn (HarperTeen)
Publication Date: March 2011 (US)
Genre: Fantasy
Young Adult

Goodreads Summary:

When Jill, a competitive high school fencer, goes with her family on vacation to the Bahamas, she is magically transported to an early eighteenth century pirate ship in the middle of the ocean.

I like the sound of this one, but I'm not liking the cover - looks cheap as chips!

White Tiger
Kylie Chan (Angry Robot Books)
Publication Date: April 2010 (UK)
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Goodreads Summary:

Emma Donahue went to Hong Kong to become a nanny to John Chen's daughter. But John's world is different, and he is no ordinary businessman -- all the gods, demons and dragons in hell want him dead. And though she doesn't know it, Emma holds the power to save them all! Kylie Chan's Dark Heavens trilogy is the most exciting Urban Fantasy debut of 2010. Already a smash-hit in the author's native Australia it brings a world of Oriental Gods, martial arts action and romance to the genre.

This sounds like an interesting read and I really like the cover - it's quite eerie but pretty at the same time...

The Thirteenth Chime
Emma Michaels (Bokheim Publishing)
Publication Date: Aug 2010 (US)
Genre: Supernatural
Young Adult

Goodreads Summary:

No one knew of its existence until it was removed from the attic upstairs. In a beautiful house that overlooks the sea, an antique clock has the power to change the course of their lives. The power the clock resonates will not only force Destiny and ex-boyfriend David on a journey into the depths of one man's mind long dead, but into the mind of a man filled with hatred and bent on revenge.

With the only clues to the nature of the clock having disappeared into the sea, Destiny and David must retrace the steps the man had taken into the darkness, before they fall prey to the trap he had set in motion over half a century ago. Hatred never dies.

I don't often read anthologies, just because I'm not keen on short stories, much prefer a full novel. However, this one looks fab and I want it for the cover alone! Great set of contributing authors too!

Teeth: Vampire Tales
Ellen Datlow, Terri Windling (HarperCollins)
Publication Date: April 2011 (US)
Genre: Paranormal

Goodreads Summary:

Sink your teeth into these bite-sized tales exploring the intersections among the living, dead, and undead. The vampires in these stories range from romantic to chilling to gleeful—and touch on nearly every emotion in between. The one thing they have in common? Their desire for blood....

I want Steel and Black Dust Mambo, too, and I added White Tiger to my list. You are right about the cover, it is awful.

I think the Sizemore book looks good, but I certainly don't remember ever seeing it! It's available on the Kindle - I downloaded a sample :)
