On My Wishlist (#33)

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It's where I list all the books I desperately want but haven't actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. It's also an event that you can join in with too - Mr Linky is always at the ready for you to link your own 'On My Wishlist' post. If you want to know more click here.

As you can see 'On My Wishlist' has a new button! Please use for your 'OMW' post, click to copy larger version, then re-size it to the size you want :)

This sounds and looks great - it's the first book in the series. I keep finding new-to-me series and adding them to my wishlist and yet I have so many to begin, or finish, on my shelves!!

Cast in Shadow (Chronicles of Alantra #1)
Michele Sagara (Luna)
Publication Date: July 2005 (US)
Genre: Fantasy

Goodreads Summary:

Seven years ago Kaylin fled the crime-riddled streets of Nightshade, knowing that something was after her. Children were being murdered—and all had the same odd markings that mysteriously appeared on her own skin...

Since then, she's learned to read, she's learned to fight and she's become one of the vaunted Hawks who patrol and police the City of Elantra. Alongside the winged Aerians and the immortal Barrani, she's made a place for herself, far from the mean streets of her birth.

But children are once again dying, and a dark and familiar pattern is emerging. Kaylin is ordered back into Nightshade with a partner she knows she can't trust, a Dragon lord for a companion and a device to contain her powers—powers that no other human has. Her task is simple—find the killer, stop the murders…and survive the attentions of those who claim to be her allies!

This looks totally awesome! I have quite a few Ann Aguirre books on my shelves to read at home, but when I saw this one I knew I had to add it to the list!

Razorland
Ann Aguirre (Feiwel & Friends)
Publication Date: Jan 2011 (US)
Genre: Science Fiction
Young Adult

Goodreads Summary:

In Deuce’s world, individuals become adults—and earn the right to a name—only if they survive their first fifteen years. By this point, each unnamed ‘brat’ has trained into one of three groups: breeders, builders, or hunters. As the names imply, each group has definite roles to play for the survival of the group.

As a Huntress, Deuce’s purpose is clear—to roam the dangerous tunnels outside the enclave and bring back meat to feed the group while evading the ferocious humanoids known as Freaks. This has been the status quo for as far back as anyone can remember; this is, the elders tell everyone, the way it has to be. With the introduction of Fade, a male hunter a couple of years older than Deuce, who had been adopted into her enclave a few years earlier, she becomes aware of the hidden realities of the Orwellian society in which she was born. Deviation from the norm is punished quickly and harshly.

As Deuce’s perception of her world shifts, guided by her complex partnership with Fade, so does the balance in the constant battle for survival in the tunnels. The Freaks, considered dangerous only due to their sheer numbers and ferocious appetite, have long been held as incapable of any level of thought. And yet, as Fade and Deuce encounter them in the tunnels while in a reconnaissance mission to the nearest enclave, the creatures’ behavior is evidently cunning, and therefore more dangerous. It is evident that the danger is imminent, and yet Deuce cannot stem the dark tide that carries her far from the only world she's ever known.

Yip - another series! But in my defense it does have a great cover and it sounds really good and I'm not actually buying it....yet ;)

Don't Kill the Messenger (Messenger #1)
Eileen Rendahl (Berkely Trade)
Publication Date: March 2010 (US)
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Goodreads Summary:

Melina Markowitz is a Messenger, a go-between for paranormal forces and supernatural creatures. Problem is, when a girl's a go-between, it's hard not to get caught in the middle...

When ninjas steal an envelope from Melina, her search leads her to a Taoist temple in Old Sacramento, where the priests seem to practice Zen and the art of mayhem. Melina learns from the handsome ER doctor (and vampire) who gave her the envelope that it contained talismans created by the priests to control Chinese vampires, who are attacking gang members to spark a street war.

Although he may look more like a surfer than a cop, Ted Goodnight is dead serious about investigating the surge in gang violence. At every turn he runs into Melina, a very attractive-and very mysterious-young woman. Can Melina enlist his help to battle something he doesn't even believe in without blowing her cover?

So that's what's on my wishlist - what's on yours?

I love the Cast in... series. It reminds me of some of Maria V. Snyder's work and also of the Tamora Pierce series with Bloodhound in it. I just got the newest and have it sitting on the top of my TBR stack.

I have read both Cast in Shadow and Kill the Messenger. I haven't read Razorland, but loving the cover art. I like the author, but I am not too impress with all the authors I enjoy switching to YA books. Not that there isn't anything wrong. I just prefer more adult books. I hope you get the books you wish and that you will enjoy them.
