Where Stories Are Made is a new feature here at Book Chick City. It’s where the author takes us on a tour of their writing place, be it an office, coffee shop or park and tells us about their writing day and rituals.
My guest today is Chloe Neill, author of the ‘Chicagoland Vampires’ series…

I suppose it’s a little bit of a misnomer to name this post “Where Stories Are Made.” That suggests there’s a single location, a place, in which I do all my writing, editing and marketing.
In fact, there’s a single thing. My single most important book-writing accessory is my Macbook. Isn’t she pretty?
I write in half a dozen different places, some of which we’ll talk about below. But mostly I use my Macbook, from typing up outlines, to researching Chicago details on Wikipedia, to drafting manuscripts. I have a day job, so my portable Macbook is indispensable. I can carry it out and about on the weekends, or try to grab a few minutes of writing at a coffeehouse before work (at least when I wake up early enough–which isn’t often).
I do actually have an office. See?

But I mostly use it for storage and organizing my various notebooks, swag, books, and reference materials. I love the idea of working in there, but after spending all day in an office for my day job, the thought of spending all night in one, as well, just doesn’t have much appeal.
Mostly, I write on the couch in my living room in the evenings, or in bed after the dogs have calmed down for the night and all the chores have been done. That’s usually when I try to get in my 1,000 to 1,500 per-day word count, as it’s the time with the fewest distractions.
On the weekends, I’ll head out to a Starbucks or sandwich place (All You Can Drink Diet Coke!) and try to get in a few hours of work. Sometimes that works better than other times, of course. (It is the weekend, after all.)
Well, that’s a look into ‘where my stories are made’. Thanks for dropping by!

Nice Macbook indeed! Your office looks like a calm place to write, but I totally understand the benefits of having a laptop and being able to move around. I can't imagine being tied down to one location, as inspiration can strike any time, anywhere.
Thank you for sharing where your stories are made!

Love your cute office. And being comfortable is key. I can't imagine writing in a public place – I'm easily distracted. But it definitely seems to be working for ya cuz you've written some fabulous books

I guess the one thing that nobody is allowed to touch besides you is your Macbook!

I love being mobile when I write (though for me it's mostly bloggy related things) and now I have an ipad and am trying to see if I can write stuff up on that..I'm so used to having a keyboard that it's taking some adjustment
Nice post!

Yes, that MacBook IS pretty! Looks a lot like mine!
And I would be lost without it, too. Who needs an office when I have my favorite easy chair with room on the arm for the cat? Thanks for sharing.
