Firstly, thank you to Carolyn for inviting me to take part in this cool feature!
Running two book blogs, my bookshelves tend to mostly reflect the books I review on my blogs – young adult novels of various genres, and fantasy; high fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal romance, adult or YA. However, if one has a proper root through my books, one will find a few adult romances, a biography, some non-fic, some old school textbooks, and books from when I was a kid.
Since I’ve started reviewing for publishers, like most bloggers, the number of books I own has grown considerably. My bookshelves just about hold all the books I had when the photos were taken, but I have several more I need to add now, that I have yet to sort out. I own two bookcases. One six shelf case, and one three shelf case, though only two shelves are shown, because my bed is in the way. Only four of the shelves on the six case are used for books I read these days – which are the ones shown. The other two shelves are for all my CDs, and my kids books. Both bookshelves are double stacked, with the smaller case holding mostly YA novels, and the other mostly fantasy, though there is some cross over.

I order my books in alphabetical order of author, and, as I said, my shelves are double stacked. To make it easier for me to see at a glance what books I’ve read and which I’ve not, I label my books; red for review copies, and yellow for my own books. I also label debut authors purple for the Debut Authors Challenge 2010 held by The Story Siren. Because of double stacking and not being able to see what books are behind the ones in front, I also keep track of my books in a journal.
Finally, I have my own version of floating bookshelves. I think they look pretty cool, and by keeping certain authors’ books together, I save a lot of room on my bookcases. Here I keep my books my Freya North, Stephenie Meyer, and J. K. Rowling, and then a spare shelf with other books.
The hallway is currently being decorated, but once that’s down, more bookcase will be bought to pretty them up – and to give me more book space! I hope you’ve enjoyed exploring my bookcases. Thanks again to Carolyn for inviting me to share them!

Great bookcases Jo, and as you know I love your floating shelves. Also, your labelling system is genius!

Thank you for hosting me, Carolyn! sorry for the few typos. I can announce my bookcases are a lot worse off than they are in these photos. I now have NO bookspace at all, so books are piling up on the floor, as the hallway bookcases haven't been bought yet. My room is looking lovely! Lol.
Thanks Jenny! I needed some way to quickly differentiate between review copies and my own; I have so many now, I forget which is which, lol. I also keep all press releases too – I'd forget which publicist needs which link, lol.

Hi, Jo. The perils of book blogging and shelf space are, I think, quite universal. I don't know of any blogger who is not obsessesed by the acquisition of more bookcases, myself included!
I'm quite curious as to the way you phrased something in your guest blog post… "Since I’ve started reviewing for publishers".
Do you see yourself then as someone who is reviewing for the publishers?
I think book bloggers are quite privileged to receive books direct from the publishers. It shows, in most cases, that our opinions are sought and valued regardless of whether we then offer a positive or negative review of their titles.
I think to say you review FOR the publishers detracts from what bloggers are really about. We review books to share our passion for reading – we want our audience to read and care for the titles, to engage with literature.
If we were actually "reviewing for publishers" then essentially we would no longer be reviewers but copywriters…

Great post Jo – you seem so much more organised than me!! I have books everywhere at the moment plus boxes of books in my Dad's loft LOL. I'm hoping that when I move I'll finally be able to get them more organised but space will be a major issue as I'll be in somewhere smaller. I have no idea how I'll fit everything in

Thank you all for the comments! The floating bookshelves seem to be going down well!
Sharon Ring – Perhaps I should have since "Since I started receiving books from publishers". I say I review for myself more than anything else, but a lot of the books I receive from publishers I probably wouldn't pick up otherwise. It's just quicker to think "this is a book I'm reviewing for me", meaning a book I bought, and "this is a book I'm reviewing for the publisher".
