Do You …?
Notice that things go bump in the night? Odd noises coming from under your bed or inside the closet? Maybe scratching sounds from inside the walls? Or … have you ever awakened one night to find ‘something’ standing at the end of your bed?
I’ve always had a wild imagination. Maybe it’s because I’m an only child or that I loved reading fairy tales.
When I was six I woke up in the middle of the night and was convinced I saw a skeleton walking down our hallway. Amazing I didn’t scream. I just did what any red-blooded kid does. I hid under the covers.
When I was thirteen I woke up feeling a true sense of horror, that to this day, I’m convinced had to do with the odd figure I saw standing by my bed. I didn’t scream then either, but I scrambled to turn on a lamp. When the light came on, the figure was gone. My parents didn’t try to persuade me I had a nightmare. My mom only said if I woke up scared, to turn on a light and read. I got a lot of late night reading done for awhile.
Just as six years ago there was something frightening in our back yard. I wish I could have gotten a picture of it because my creative talent doesn’t lie in drawing. A pagan friend told me it was a dark fae and I was very glad when I told it not to return and it didn’t.
Maybe that’s why writing paranormal came so easy for me. I believed a lot of odd things were out there. I still see and feel things sometimes. Some good. Some odd. And some I would have rather not felt.
I enjoy writing about a skewed city with strange characters and creatures. The idea of creating a world of wonder is like visiting a wild theme park where anything can happen. My heroines won’t just kick the villain’s ass, they can even change it into something else if they feel like it. Rumors that fuzzy sharp-toothed bunny slippers eating the cats have not been verified. Probably because they’d prefer the felines be their very own special pets.
That’s why I write my series. I create a world I wouldn’t mind living in, characters I’d love to hang out with, and creatures that are fun and magickal. I write what I love to read.
I still check the back yard before my hell hound Barney goes outside late at night, plus we have a skunk hanging around, and every so often I sense our house ghost, Frank, looking after us. As long as he stays out of my make-up I’m happy.
This is what I love about my worlds.
Many of you noticed that my next book doesn’t have the word Hex in it and that The Best Hex Ever wouldn’t be out this month. My editor loved the half demon hero in that book so much she changed the title to reflect him and they also wanted a new cover and new look for the series. The witches are still there though! Look for Demons Are A Girl’s Best Friend in April, 2011.
And I’ll have some enovellas available soon for Kindle, Nook, and Smashwords. I don’t have an exact date yet, but you can find updates at my website www.lindawisdom.com and please visit my blog http://linda-wisdom.blogspot.com
So what about you? Have you ever had something odd happen in your life that has you deciding it’s better to sleep with the lights on?
Thank you, Carolyn, for having me here! I always enjoy visiting here.
Linda

So glad for the update on Linda's books and the new covers – I would have totally thought that was a different series. I can understand why they might want the new art, but I hope the witches and fun stay the same!

LOL Irene! Luckily, I have drawers under my bed, so I don't need to worry about it.
Don't worry, Sabrina. The witches will still be there!
And I have a paranormal novella titled Brady's Hellion up at Amazon in the Kindle Store!

I was an only child who was afraid of all the monsters lurking in the dark too! LOL And now I write about them… Go figure!
I'm pretty sure all that's under my bed these days are dust bunnies… But you never know right?

Hi Linda! I would have done the same thing when I was a kid — hide under the covers! In fact, I'm sure I did just that a few times, lol.
Everyone, Linda's books are fabulous. I can't wait to get my hands on the next one!
