ALL HALLOWS EVE 2010 – On My Wishlist: Horror Anthology Edition
by Carolyn • Posted in On My Wishlist

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It’s where I list all the books I desperately want but haven’t actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. It’s also an event that you can join in with too – Mr Linky is always at the ready for you to link your own ‘On My Wishlist’ post. If you want to know more click HERE.
**This week, as part of my ALL HALLOWS EVE event, I am posting a Special Horror Anthology Edition of On My Wishlist!**

I *love* this cover – the stories sound good too, some great authors listed!
The Pan Book of Horror Stories
Various Authors (Pan)
Publication Date: Oct 2010
Genre: Horror

Amazon Summary:
Fifty years ago Pan launched a series of books that were to delight and disgust – sometimes even on the same page – readers for thirty years. From classics in the genre to scraping-the-barrel nastiness, the Pan Books of Horror had them all and they continue to be a major influence in published anthologies to the present day.
We’re delighted, therefore, to announce the reissue of the very first Pan Book of Horror. Specially selected for Pan, here are 22 terrifying tales of horror by such famous authors as Peter Fleming, C. S. Forester, Bram Stoker, Angus Wilson, Noel Langley, Jack Finney and L. P. Hartley.
Stories of the uncanny jostle with tales of the macabre. Stories of subtle beastliness—like Rasberry Jam; of sickening horror—like The Fly or His Beautiful Hands; and of utter chilling terror—like The Horror of the Museum!
The perfect bedside book—for those with nerves of steel!

I love a good ghost story once in a while and this cover is spooky!
The Mammoth Books of Modern Ghost Stories
Various Authors (Constable & Robinson)
Publication Date: Sept 2007
Genre: Horror
Amazon Summary:
Over 25 short story masterpieces from writers such as Louis de Bernieres and Ian Rankin – modern literary tales to chill the blood. This spine-chilling new anthology of 20th and 21st century tales by big name writers is in the best traditions of literary ghost stories. It is just a little over a hundred years ago that the most famous literary ghost story, “The Turn of the Screw” by Henry James, was published and in the intervening years a great many other distinguished writers have tried their hand at this popular genre – some basing their fictional tales on real supernatural experiences of their own.

Another great sounding collection… This cover freaks me out – it’s just fab!
The Mammoth Books of Monsters
Various Authors (Robinson)
Publication Date: June 2007
Genre: Horror
Amazon Summary:
This title features monsterrific stories by top names in horror writing. vampires, werewolves, zombies, ghouls…these and many other creatures of the night are featured in this bumper collection of stories by such authors as Clive Barker, Harlan Ellison, Ramsey Campbell, Brian Lumley, Tanith Lee, Michael Marshall Smith, Kim Newman, Joe R. Lansdale, Lisa Tuttle, R. Chetwynd-Hayes, Basil Copper and many others. Here you’ll discover creatures both unnatural and manmade, as the walking dead rise from their graves, immortal blood suckers seek human nourishment, deformed monstrosities pursue their victims across the countryside, and the ugliest of nightmares is revealed to have a soul. Drawn from the pages of legend and literature, these stories feature things that slither, stagger, swoop, stomp and scamper. So bolt the doors, lock the windows and shiver in the shadows, because no-one is safe when the monsters are loose.

Short stories are sometimes the best way of reading horror – it's like telling ghost stories during sleepovers when you were a kid! Good list!
