I love this cover!! I don’t usually read anthologies as I’m not a big fan of short stories but this I have to own!

Wolfmen (Anthology)
Stephen Jones (Robinson)
Publication Date: Nov 2009
Genre: Horror

Goodreads Summary:

A collection of 23 dark werewolf tales from contemporary and classic authors. Top contributors include Clive Barker, Michael Marshall Smith, Graham Masterton, and Mark Morris.

I like the sound of this one – a good ol’ fashioned horror!

Ravenous
Ray Garton (Dorchester Publishing)
Publication Date: April 2008
Genre: Horror

Goodreads Summary:

A serial rapist is on the loose in the sleepy California town of Big Rock, and sheriff Farrell Hurley’s secretary is the latest victim. When a self-proclaimed werewolf hunter named Daniel Fargo comes into town claiming that Big Rock has an infestation of the creatures, Hurley thinks the man is insane, until the eviscerated corpses and attacks by large animals start in earnest.

For Garton, lycanthropy is an STD, spread mostly through rape, that runs rampant through a small town fraught with affairs and intrigues. His werewolf is a terrifying creature: not a remorseful, helpless cursed human but a homicidal beast driven by a dual urge to breed and feed. Hurley is a sheriff to root for, and Garton’s well-paced horror novel reworks the werewolf myth to great effect. (

I have yet to try Charles de Lint – this sounds like a pretty good place to start.

Wolf Moon
Charles de Lint (Firebird)
Publication Date: Jan 2004
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Goodreads Summary:

His name when he was human was Kern. Now he is the most feared of beings: a werewolf. When the change first came upon him, his parents drove him away with silver daggers. Later, he sought human companionship, but he could not hide the truth for long. And so he kept running until he ran headlong into the deadliest pursuer of all—a harper bent on stealing his life away. By chance Kern was able to find refuge at the Inn of the Yellow Tinker, and the woman he was destined to love. But can he risk both human and harper vengeance to keep her?

I’ve heard good things about this author but have not read any books yet…

Wolf at the Door (The Others #1)
Christine Warren (St Martin’s Press)
Publication Date: April 2008
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Goodreads Summary:

Sullivan Quinn didn’t travel 3,000 miles from his native Ireland and his wolf pack just to chase rabidly after the most delectable quarry he’s ever seen. Quinn is in America on a mission—to warn his Other brethren of a shadowy group willing to use murder and mayhem to bring them down. But one whiff of this Foxwoman’s delicious honeysuckle fragrance and he knows that she is more than a colleague or a conquest…she is his mate.

Anthropologist Cassidy Poe is a world-renowned authority on social interaction, but the overpowering desire she feels around Quinn defies every ounce of her expertise. Working by his side to uncover The Others’ enemies poses risks she never expected—to her own safety, to those she loves, and to her heart, as every encounter with Quinn proves more blissfully erotic than the last…

Now, with no one to trust but each other, Quinn and Cassidy face a foe that’s edging closer every day, threatening to destroy the life they’ve always known, and the passion they’ve just discovered…

This sounds awesome! I don’t usually enjoy books with war themes but this does sound good. I’m also intrigued how the author weaves so many genres together…

The Wolf’s Hour
Robert McCammon (Subterranean)
Publication Date: Nov 2010
Genre: Horror, Action Thriller, Paranormal Romance

Goodreads Summary:

First published in 1989, The Wolf’s Hour remains one of Robert McCammon’s most indelible creations. Ranging freely and with great authority through realms of history, folklore, and myth, it combines two seemingly disparate genres the World War II action thriller and the paranormal romance into a seamless, irresistible whole.

McCammon’s hero is Michael Gallatin, embattled inhabitant of two different worlds. Born into the Russian aristocracy, but ‘changed’ and raised by a pack of werewolves, Michael’s journey takes him from the wild regions of his native Russia to the battle-scarred landscapes of a world at war. Offering his unique talents to the Allied cause, Michael becomes a sort of secret weapon aimed at the destruction of Hitler and his ‘Thousand Year Reich.’

His adventures take him from the deserts of North Africa to the German-occupied countries of Western Europe. There, with the aid of a vivid assortment of friends, comrades, and lovers, he uncovers a horrific conspiracy known as ‘Iron Fist,’ which threatens to disrupt the Allies’ long-planned invasion of Europe and to alter the very outcome of the war.
Both a scrupulously researched historical thriller and a brilliant re-imagining of the traditional werewolf tale, The Wolf’s Hour offers pleasure, excitement, and illumination on virtually every page. Exotic, enthralling, and endlessly inventive, it is the work of a master storyteller in full command of his matchless narrative gifts.

The Subterranean Press edition of The Wolf’s Hour will feature an original introduction by Robert McCammon, as well as a full-color dust jacket and a number of color plates by Vincent Chong, including a gatefold illustration depicting the novel’s famous ‘death train’ scene.

I like a good YA paranormal every now and then and this looks like a good one – has anybody read it?

Moonlight (Dark Guardian #1)
Rachel Hawthorne (Harper Teen)
Publication Date: March 2009
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Young Adult

Goodreads Summary:

KAYLA is the nature lover, the all-American beauty who can’t understand why she’s so drawn to distant, brooding Lucas. Adopted as a young child, she has no way of knowing that she’s inherited a terrifying-and thrilling-gene that will change her life forever.

LUCAS is dangerous, gorgeous … and a werewolf. As leader of the Dark Guardians, shape-shifters who gather deep within the state park, he has sworn to protect his pack. But when Lucas finds his true soul mate, his love could put them all in harm’s way.

As Lucas and Kayla struggle with their feelings for each other, a greater danger lurks: Humans have discovered the Dark Guardians and are planning their destruction. Kayla must choose between the life she knows and the love she feels certain is her destiny.

I really liked Wolf Moon by Charles de Lint – I read it like four or five years ago. From what I remember it was really good.

My sister read Wolf at the Door by Christine Warren. Trying to get her to NOT tell me about the books was problem – but I take it as a sign that the book was pretty good.

Some of these I really want to read. So awesome werewolf wishlist.

The Wolf's Hour by Robert McCammon sounds exciting! I didn't know, these two genres could be combined so easily… But interesting to know would be: to which expanse is this novel historicially valuable?Could it be a way to combine the reader's fantasy love with educational purposes?

I have read Moonlight, and I did not like it. It was too predictable and the whole thing was way too short. But I do love the cover. :P
