Thanks for inviting me to share my shelves.
I have a book addiction! There, I’ve admitted it, and I have witnesses! Just ask my husband. But there are worse addictions to have. Right?
What’s great about my addiction to books – besides the fact that it doesn’t hurt anyone else, unless a bookshelf topples over from the weight – is that it gets me to think creatively about older furniture. For example, my high school CD collection has long outgrown this little shelving unit, but I didn’t put it out to pasture. Instead, I put it to good use, moving the shelves to accommodate books. The top two shelves are just some of the poetry journals that I’ve collected, and the bottom shelves are books I’ve read or won in giveaways or borrowed from Anna. I’ll read them . . . eventually.
Another creative method has been using portions of other furniture for books; check out this half moon shaped side table my husband bought me ages ago. The top may have knickknacks and other stuff, but the bottom has a bunch of books I’ve already read and enjoyed.

Living in a one-bedroom apartment and my book addiction forces me to be crafty, to think outside the box and fit books in areas normally not designated for books. Beyond re-appropriation, I’ve also discovered that there are dual-purpose pieces of furniture available for book addicts like me. Check out my living room floor lamps, which I purchased at Home Depot, and my cool Ikea coffee table.

The Internet can be your friend when you are looking for smart solutions. One of the best finds was CSN Stores, which a lot of bloggers had been featuring on their sites after receiving free bookshelves. I ended up buying new tables with shelves for either side of our bed, and guess what those shelves hold?! You got it – books. I really love these little shelves.
Naturally, this means more work for my husband when these pieces arrive in the house because who else is going to assemble them? While he is good about assembling these great solutions, I do help hammer and read instructions too. I wouldn’t leave him with all the grunt work; would I?
Ikea has become one of my favorite places for bookshelves ever since I bought this Billy corner unit – the doors were separate and easy to add.
This unit helped me get organized and get a lot of books off the floor. I wanted to show you a behind the scenes look at the shelves, including my Vampire/paranormal books:
and my war shelves:
Vietnam War
WWII
and one of the poetry shelves:
Finally, my husband and I were asked to assemble and review a bookshelf from CSN Stores, and I let him pick out the one he wanted since it would mostly house my books. It gave him some control. He chose the Nexxt Leena Angled shelf.

This shelf caused a great deal of strain as we received one box with broken pieces in it and a second box with defective pieces. Finally, the third box and part of the second box helped our little shelf come together. If you want to know more about this one, you’ll just have to read the review on my blog. We haven’t quite figured out what to put on this shelf in terms of décor or books. Right now, it is temporarily arranged, but I’m sure I’ll be changing things around to organize my books a little bit more. Most of these in the photo are from library sales.
I hope you enjoyed the little glimpse into my shelves. There is one other shelf in my bedroom, but it only has about 2 shelves of double-stacked books, while the remaining shelves house my other addiction – photos. I have a gazillion photo albums, though I’m far behind on scrapbooking these days, but something has to take a backseat. I hope these shelves inspired you to put your stamp on your own addiction.

I am so showing my husband all of your bookshelves.
This reminds me of the book "Decorating with Books" that I got to figure out what do to with all of our books. (It didn't help.)

The angled bookshelf is nearly full now. I can't believe how empty it looked when it first came here. LOL

Nice post, love the bookshelves, I so need some too. I am afraid 80% of my books are at my parents since they have no room after I moved in with my bf

Living in a small apartment certainly makes you rethink how to best use your space. I really love Ikea for that reason…many of their pieces serve more than one purpose. (I'm not an affiliate of theirs…just love their stuff, though the rate I'm going, maybe they should give me a cut of the profit they earn just from me.

Serena certainly has some creative ways to sneak books in every where! I love the lamps with the bookshelves. I could use some of those myself! And the angled shelf is neat, even if it was a pain to put together.

Where did you find those lamps?! I love them! The angle shelves also confuse me…how are the books staying up there? It's probably simply huh.
