UPDATE: Zosia is no longer reviewing for BCC

All Hallows Eve is now over *sniff* and I will be posting about it tomorrow with some winners! But now it’s back to regular scheduling, except there is a new addition to the BCC team!

Although I enjoy my regular features here on BCC (and will be keeping them) I have wanted to limit the amount I post in favour of more reviews, but due to the fact that I’m a pretty slow reader and especially now that I’ve started my Zoology degree I can’t seem to get through more than one – two books per week.

So, I have been scouting Goodreads for a number of weeks, seeking out ‘the one’ that would fit in with BCC. I came across reviews written by Zosia, which I thought were insightful, completely honest and funny – sometimes they had me laughing-out-loud. You may already know Zosia if you’re a member of Goodreads.

You will see Zosia on a regular basis as she reads voraciously! I’m very excited to work with her and look forward to sharing her reviews with you on lots of fab books! So without further ado, please give a very warm welcome to the newest (and last) member to the BCC Team…

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Hi from the other side of the world.

I live in Canberra, the capital of Australia – hours from a beach. So I’m not much of a bronzed, surfing goddess like you might see on Home and Away. We have bushland and kangaroos and mountains – it’s a great place to live if you like nature, and have a tolerance for very big spiders.

Growing up in the theatre and having a family involved in costume-making and lighting design, I’ve been playing make-believe my entire life. Reading is an extension of that, and I’m not a genre snob; I pretty much read whatever I can get my hands on.

At about age eight I even had a go at becoming a famous author with such classics as ‘The Queen Goes to the Supermarket’ and ‘One, Two and Three Meet Four’. Surprisingly, those manuscripts didn’t kick-start a writing career, so now I choose to read and review instead.

I love travelling, but when you live at the end of the Earth it becomes a very expensive and time-consuming pastime! In the last ten years I’ve lived and worked on three continents and massacred plenty of languages in my embarrassing attempts to blend in. I guess if you count shopping as a hobby, that’s my big one. I don’t like trucks (weird I know), rugby or vodka – there’s a nasty story there.

I read anything and everything. After majoring in literature at university (and often boring myself to tears) I decided it was time to read for fun, so I won’t turn anything down. I read a great deal of suspense and romantic suspense, as well as paranormal and urban fantasy, crime, mystery, historical fiction and romance, the list goes on. In an attempt to support the Australian publishing industry I do try to give Australian authors a go, but there just aren’t enough of them to support my reading habits.

The only book I’m a snob about is The Little Mermaid, and I still haven’t forgiven Disney for what they did to my favourite story.

Recent authors I’ve read and loved include romantic suspense writers Cindy Gerard, Pamela Clare, Christy Reece, Laura Griffin, Kylie Brant, Suzanne Brockmann, Tara Janzen and my favourite ‘unknown’ Kaylea Cross. Favourite paranormal writers include Lara Adrian, Jeaniene Frost and Patricia Briggs. I’ve also recently discovered and loved Lisa Kleypas and Gaelen Foley’s historical stories, and JD Robb’s futuristic crime books. Closer to home, Hélène Young and Bronwyn Parry’s Australian-themed stories are on my ‘favourites’ list.

Of course, every so often I need to read something terrible for a good laugh, which is where my not so secret collection of books with Fabio covers comes in…

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Canberra sounds like an amazing place, Zosia – I love nature…although not spiders *shudders* I definitely could not cope with those! I share your love for Lisa Kleypas and Gaelen Foley, I’ve just discovered their books too… I’ve not read books with Fabio covers though…maybe I should rectify this!? ;)

Zosia’s first review of ‘Open Season‘ by Linda Howard will be up later today, so please stop by and make her feel welcome :)

Welcome to Book Chick City, Zosia!!

yllektra – Thank you! Awesomeland? I suppose we have our moments… I've just got my hands on my first Keri Arthur book – I've heard a lot of good things about her. I should have tried her books sooner!

Thank you Celine!

Stephanie, you're not so bad yourself! Your site is great.

A big hello & welcome from BCC's other regular reviewer :-)
I'm a big fan of Jeaniene Frost and Patricia Briggs too!
I very much enjoy your reviews on Goodreads so I look forward to reading more.
I have to say you're now on my list of very brave people as I'm absolutely terrified of spiders ;-)

Have you read Kim Wilkins? She is the only Australian author I can think of off the top of my head that I read regularly.

Katrina, we don't have those problems here – just kamikaze kangaroos that jump into traffic and through windows! There're dead kangaroos all along the sides of the roads.

Zosia! Holy cow, look at you go!

I've never known anyone that reads as fast as you, so you're definitely suited to be a reviewer here at BCC :)

Hope all is well Down Under.

Thanks Kaylea! Funny you should mention it – this morning I woke up with an insomnia-induced headache and promised myself I'll try to prioritise sleep over books!
