They can be old, new or forthcoming. It’s also an event that you can join in with too – Mr Linky is always at the ready for you to link your own ‘On My Wishlist’ post. I have Marianne de Pierres adult science fiction series ‘Sentients of Orion’ and ‘Parrish Plessis’ on my shelf, but I saw on her website that she’s written a young adult paranormal novel too. Sounds good!

Burn Bright
Marianne de Pierres (Random House)
Publication Date: March 2011
Genre: Paranormal
Young Adult

Goodreads Summary:
Into a world of wild secrets and deadly pleasures comes a girl whose innocence may be her greatest strength.
In Ixion, music and party are our only beliefs. Darkness is our comfort. We have few rules but they are absolute . . .

Retra doesn’t want to go to Ixion, the island of ever-night, ever-youth and never-sleep. Retra is a Seal – sealed minds, sealed community. She doesn’t crave parties and pleasure, experience and freedom.
But her brother Joel left for Ixion two years ago, and Retra is determined to find him. Braving the intense pain of her obedience strip to escape the only home she’s ever known, Retra stows away on the barge that will take her to her brother.

When she can’t find Joel, Retra finds herself drawn deeper into the intoxicating world of Ixion. Come to me, whispers a voice in her head. Who are the Ripers, the mysterious guardians of Ixion? What are the Night Creatures Retra can see in the shadows? And what happens to those who grow too old for Ixion?
Retra will find that Ixion has its pleasures, but its secrets are deadly. Will friendship, and the creation of an eternal bond with a Riper, be enough to save her from the darkness?

Listen well, baby bats. Burn bright, but do not stray from the paths. Remember, when you live in a place of darkness you also live with creatures of the dark.

I love a good thriller every now and then and this one sounds really good.

HeartSick
Chelsea Cain (St Martin’s)
Publication Date: Sept 2007
Genre: Thriller

Goodreads Summary:
When beautiful serial killer Gretchen Lowell captured her last victim – the very detective who was trying to hunt her down – she quickly established who was really in control of the investigation. So why, after 10 days of horrifying physical and mental torture, did she release Detective Archie Sheridan on the brink of death and hand herself in?
No one else will ever know what happened between Gretchen and Archie, and even with his tormentor serving life Archie remains both obsessed and driven by a mysterious, terrifying dynamic that was born during his time alone with her. One thing is clear – Archie does not believe he was ever truly freed.
Two years on Archie, shadowed by vulnerable, naive young reporter Susan Ward, must lead a new hunt for the ‘after school killer’, and he knows that one person can help him climb into the mind of this psychopath.
But are there links between these brutal deaths and Gretchen’s own unthinkable past? And will this only give Gretchen an invitation to play puppeteer once more? In turns shocking and touching, this startling, compulsive debut introduces a complex psychopathic killer who will haunt your every waking hour long after you finish the last page…

I love it when the supernatural and a mystery story are combined, and this looks fab!

The Remains of the Dead (A Ghost Duster’s Mystery #1)
Wendy Roberts (Obsidian)
Publication Date: Dec 2007
Genre: Supernatural Mystery

Goodreads Summary:
Saddie Novak has got the kind of job that kills cocktail chatter dead: She owns Scene-2-Clean, a crime scene cleanup company. And if wiping up after murders weren’t spooky enough, she can also see and talk to the ghosts of the victims.
When a grieving relative hires Sadie and her employee, ex-cop Zack Bowman, to clean up after the murder-suicide of Trudy and Grant Toth, Sadie figures she’s bound to encounter at least one chatty ghost. But instead she finds herself talking to Kent, a man she meets at the scene who is very much alive–so much so that Sadie agrees to go on a date with him.
When a ghost does appear–the oddly silent Trudy–the spirit seems determined to prove her husband’s innocence, and inspires Sadie to track down the real killer. But as Sadie scours the crime scene, she quickly realizes that she’s in way over her head, that Kent has a strange connection to the dead couple, and that someone wants her to give up the ghost…for good.

I really enjoy Chelsea Cain's books. They're a little of the grittier side of mysteries and crime, but very good reads!
