Sign Up: The 2011 Stephen King Challenge!

The 2011 Stephen King Challenge!

Welcome to The 2011 Stephen King Challenge! I love horror, and I've loved every Stephen King book I've read. Unfortunately that's not that many. I really want to read more books written by this amazing author, which is why I created this challenge. So, if like me you want to delve further into the dark imagination of Stephen King, then join me in my quest!

Sign Up Details

To sign up you MUST make a post on your blog about participating in the challenge - you then use the URL of the post to sign up to the challenge by adding it to Mr Linky below. DO NOT just add your blog URL - this will be deleted.

You must add the button to your sidebar - make sure that it links back to this post so others can join the challenge if they wish. Easiest way to do this is to copy and paste the code displayed below!

Grab the button!

Stephen King Challenge

Challenge Details

Timeline: 01 Jan 2011 - 31 Dec 2011

Rules - There are two levels: Read either SIX (6) or TWELVE (12) Stephen King novels in 2011 (6 is the minimum but you can read more than 12 if you wish!)

You don't have to select your books ahead of time, you can just add them as you go. Also if you do list them upfront you can change them, nothing is set in stone! The books you choose can crossover into other challenges you have on the go.

You can join anytime between now and the later part of next year.

At the beginning of Jan 2011, I will add a link so you can add your reviews.

You don't have to have a blog to join in - for those without a blog just FILL IN THIS FORM and I will add you to the list - just join the discussion in the comments section to let us know when you've read a book and what you thought of it! :)

You can also follow each other's progress and chat about the SK books you read on twitter too - just use #SKChallenge :)

If you have trouble adding your URL link below, please email me the name you want posted below with your URL link and I will add it for you.

What a great challenge! I'm really looking forward to it, now just to decide which book to read. My wife and just read Cujo last month, maybe The Dead Zone?

Hott Books - thanks, your too kind. Yes I do the buttons myself. It takes a bit of time but I like doing them :)

Rabid Fox said...

Oooh. This one is tempting. I dunno if I could read that many King novels in a year, but I could always try.

Book Chick City said...

Rabid Fox - In case there are more peeps who worry about the number of books I have created another level. Now you can choose between reading 6 or 12 books in 2011. I hope that sways you towards joining ;)

Leanne said...

I can't wait to get started! I've just read my first Stephen King book (late I know) and am looking forward to getting stuck into more.

Oh cool! As a massive fan I will definitely sign up for the Stephen King challenge. I was planning to catch up on the novels I'd missed anyway, so this is a great excuse. I will sort out the post and linky thing next week sometime :)

Cheers Jason!

Hey there. Wanted to let you know the button wouldn't fit right in my sidebar and didn't want to have to change my entire layout so I put the button in my post and have a link to the challenge post on my right sidebar at the bottom :)

Really looking forward to this challenge. I've been wanting to read Stephen King for awhile now!

Kate said...

Favorite challenge ever!! I seriously cannot wait until the New Year!

Kelly said...

What a fabulous challenge! I would love to sign up for it, but I've already read the majority of his novels.
I spent the past year reading and re-reading them in the order they were published. I'm not quite finished yet, but I only have two novels and one short story collection (the newest one) left to read, and I'm not ready to re-read the ones I already read this year. If only I had known there would be a challenge, I would have waited!

Adam Christopher said...

Excellent, I will sign up tonight. I'm on a quest to read all of King's novels in publication order, and have just finished The Stand, so this is perfect timing.

Just a question - do his books written as Richard Bachman count? Personally I think they do. I'm asking now because after The Stand comes The Long Mile, which is a Bachman book.

Julie Cohen said...

Ahhhh what a great idea. I've read them all, though, over the years, except for his latest, which I'll read as soon as I can get it from the library. So I won't join in. But you've got some treats in store. My favourites are Misery, The Shining, and the fantasy novels co-written with Peter Straub—and I really liked his last book, Under the Dome. Some books are better than others, but the man has a tremendous storytelling talent, and he just draws you in and doesn't let you go. And he's from Maine, like me.

Julie, the big SK fangirl

Bob said...

Hello Book Chick. I've signed up for your challenge, although I only have a couple I haven't already read. Would you be interested in doing an interview with me for my podcast The Kingcast about the challenge?

Would love ot have a chat with you.

Book Chick City, you are awesome!! :)

Thank you for this great challenge, which is not a challenge at all for me. I'll definitely join in simply because I love SK.
I will write my sign-up post tomorrow and I will read 6 (or maybe 7) because I'm a slow reader. I read 7 SK's books last year.

Is novella count? Since last year, I've planned to read 1 story from different seasons then review it then read another authors and get back to different seasons again and so on. Can that count?

I don't think I've got 6 of his left to read...and be damned if I'm rereading.

Still, I think this is an awesome thing to do. The more people discovering The Shining, Dead Zone, Long Walk, and Hearts in Atlantis the better. Go forth, people, and enjoy.

Murf61 said...

A bit late to the party, but this is a great idea and will take up the challenge. Love the graphics on the button.

This question is interesting, I like to know that too:

"Just a question - do his books written as Richard Bachman count? Personally I think they do. I'm asking now because after The Stand comes The Long Mile, which is a Bachman book." (Adam Christopher)

Thanks for the challenge, a greeting! :)

Stephen King is always on my "to be read" list of writers who I may not necessarily have in the immediate TBR pile. This challenge will help rectify the situation.
