Year in Review 2010

I know I’m a bit late with my New Year post, but never mind. I hope you all had a great time and a fab New Year and you have kept all your New Year’s resolutions for more than a week – LOL! Here are my blogging highlights of 2010…

January:

• In one of my discussion posts I asked if some of us are Too Old for YA? Many of you had your say!
• I also asked Why Do Covers Matter?
• Worst book read: Mr Shivers by Robert Jackson Bennett
• Best book read: Diving into the Wreck by Kristine Kathryn Rusch

February:

• I hosted my first ‘Be My Valentine event which was just over the valentine weekend. It was fun!
• For one of my discussion posts I asked: YA Fiction: Category or Genre? Many of you were as confused as to which, but a good discussion was had :)
• I also asked ARC’s: Review Sooner or Later? I am now a little more relaxed about ARCs and the whole reviewing thing, but when I wrote this post I was having trouble with how to schedule etc. Many of you felt the same way.
• Best book read: The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz
• Worst book read: None – had a pretty good month for books!

March:

• For one of my discussion posts I broached the subject: Reviews: Long or Short? I am much more comfortable with the length of my reviews, but I was worried that they weren’t longer or more critical like other reviews I read. But I’m just a girl who likes to read and then post her thoughts – I’m not a professional critic so I just tried to stop worrying so much. My reviews are what they are!
• I hosted one of my favourite events: ‘The Men of Urban Fantasy Week – where I reviewed urban fantasy written by men and had many of the authors guest posting – this was such fun week!

• I attended my very first publishing event: Headline Meets Online Party – wonderful event, had a great time.
• The other event I attended this month was World Horror Con – just read my post to find out how amazingly awesome this day was – fantastic!
• Best book read: I Am Not A Serial Killer by Dan Wells
• Worst book read: Nekropolis by Tim Waggoner

April:

• I attended another event: Odyssey (also known as EasterCon) – not as good as WHC but fun all the same.
• BCC saw a new member join, the lovely Laura – can’t believe she’s been reviewing for BCC for nearly a year. It’s been lovely to have her and we’ve become good friends :)
• After lots of negativity buzzing around the blogosphere about blog promotion etc I had to have my say: Blog Promotion: Yay or Nay? I’m pleased that the many of you who commented felt the same way.
• This month’s event was ‘House of Night Week‘ – I read and reviewed the entire HoN series and really enjoyed myself!
• Best book read: My Monster by Dan Wells
• Worst book read: none, all were pretty good!

May:

• Introduction of Books We Love feature
• Introduction of The Blogger’s Bookshelf feature (now retired)
• I found the romance genre, having stayed away from it for years. I wrote about my thoughts on the subject: Genre Misconceptions: Have You Ever Been Wrong?
• Best book read: Secrets of A Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas
• Worst book read: Flu by Wayne Simmons

June:

• Hosted the first annual Young Adult Event: YA-10 (YA-11 is coming soon!)
• Best book read: Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane (I am in love with this series!)
• Worst book read: again, a great month of books, a ‘bad’ book didn’t stand out.

July:
• I had my One Year Blogiversary! Lots of giveaways to be had – great fun!
• Attended Simon & Schuster Blogger Event – fab time, lots of wonderful people and came away laden with yummy books!
• Best book read: Unholy Magic by Stacia Kane
• Worst book read: I didn’t have a bad book this month, but sadly Laura had a take it or leave it: Always A Bridesmaid by Elaine Hopper

August:

• Best book read: Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella – I don’t read very much chick-lit, but I will always make an exception for Kinsella – just fab!
• Worst book read: Again, not a bad book for me – but Laura’s was Carnal Lust by Ashley Ladd.

September:

• Shared a Double Dare with Leontine’s Book Realm: Leontine had to read a zombie horror, while I had to sink into an erotic novel. An experience for both of us, but it was a lot of fun :)
• My second year participating in Book Blogger Appreciation Week (BBAW).
• Best book read: Laid Bare by Lauren Dane
• Worst book read: Derik’s Bane by MaryJanice Davidson

October:
• I hosted my second annual halloween event: All Hallow’s Eve. I love this time of year and it was great to celebrate it with things that go bump in the night!
• Found a fab artist that designs creepy Art Dolls, and they are creepy!
• Best book read: Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion / and re-read The Woman in Black by Susan Hill.
• Worst book read: Easy peasy – Beware! by Richard Laymon (awful book)

November:

• In one of my discussion posts I asked are Vampires: Killers or Lovers – lots of different opinions!
• Laura and I showed Where We Read!

December:

• I found some gorgeous iPad Cases – you all loved them as much as me :)
• I hosted ‘Vampire Academy Week‘ – I read and reviewed all the books in the series and found that I had fallen in love with the characters and their story. This series is just awesome!
• Hosted my second ‘Christmas Week‘ – festive reviews and guest posts.
• Best book read: Blood Promises by Richelle Mead
• New reviewer: Jo joins the BCC team – Jo is just fab and I love her reviews, I’m so pleased she joined !

New Year Resolutions:

I always make new year resolutions. I don’t always keep them, but I always make them and spend my year trying to achieve them. For 2011 my blogging resolutions are to read more, review more, comment more and write more discussion posts – I managed to write a few discussion posts in 2010 so I hope to add a few more this year.

As always I would really love to read at least 3-4 books per week, but as I’m a slow reader I can only manage 2. But with Laura and Jo, there are now at least 5 reviews per week! I also want to try and comment on other blogs a bit more. As my blog has grown it has become increasingly more difficult to comment on every blog regularly, as it takes a lot of time just to reply to comments on my own blog, which I try to do regularly.

And finally – I have had such an amazing blogging 2010! Thanks so much to all of you who come by to read my blog, join in with comments, sign up for my challenges and enter the contests, you are all truly super duper! Here’s to 2011 and another great blogging year!

Hope you all have a happy and exciting 2011!

Very comprehensive overview. I added Woman in Black to my TBR pile. I used to think I was a fast reader, until I met everyone in the book blogging world! LOL.

It's never too late for it ;) I love your blog! I love the reviews, the challenges & all the events you're hosting! Some of the best books I've read last year are from your recommendations. One of them is Warm Bodies, a book I don't think I would've read at all from the description, but I ended up loving it :) Also, the Downside Ghosts series! I'm in love with it also :) There are a lot more I've added on my tbr list :) So, I know you'll all continue with the great work & thank you for this amazing blog! I'm looking forward to another great year!
