On My Wishlist (#58)

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It’s where I list all the books I desperately want but haven’t actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. It’s also an event that you can join in with too – Mr Linky is always at the ready for you to link your own ‘On My Wishlist’ post. If you want to know more click here.
I really enjoyed the movie, so now I want to read the book!

I Know What You Did Last Summer
Lois Duncan (Atom)
Publication Date: March 2011

Genre: Horror/Thriller
Young Adult

Goodreads Summary:

It was only an accident — but it would change their lives forever. Last summer, four terrified friends made a desperate pact to conceal a shocking secret. But some secrets don’t stay buried, and someone has learned the truth. Someone bent on revenge. This summer, the horror is only beginning….

Oohoo – this sounds so creepy, I love the last paragraph of the summary – sounds like just my kind of read :)

Dark Matter
Michelle Paver (Orion)
Publication Date: Oct 2010

Genre: Horror

Goodreads Summary:

‘What is it? What does it want? Why is it angry with me?’ January 1937 Clouds of war are gathering over a fogbound London. Twenty-eight year old Jack is poor, lonely and desperate to change his life. So when he’s offered the chance to be the wireless operator on an Arctic expedition, he jumps at it. Spirits are high as the ship leaves Norway: five men and eight huskies, crossing the Barents Sea by the light of the midnight sun. At last they reach the remote, uninhabited bay where they will camp for the next year. Gruhuken. But the Arctic summer is brief.
As night returns to claim the land, Jack feels a creeping unease. One by one, his companions are forced to leave. He faces a stark choice. Stay or go. Soon he will see the last of the sun, as the polar night engulfs the camp in months of darkness. Soon he will reach the point of no return – when the sea will freeze, making escape impossible. And Gruhuken is not uninhabited. Jack is not alone. Something walks there in the dark.

This one sounds pretty good too.

The Keeper (The Keeper #1)
Sarah Langan (HarperCollins)
Publication Date: Sept 2006

Genre: Horror

Goodreads Summary:

Some believe Bedford, Maine, is cursed. Its bloody past, endless rain, and the decay of its downtown portend a hopeless future. With the death of its paper mill, Bedford’s unemployed residents soon find themselves with far too much time to dwell on thoughts of Susan Marley. Once the local beauty, she’s now the local whore. Silently prowling the muddy streets, she watches eerily from the shadows, waiting for . . . something. And haunting the sleep of everyone in town with monstrous visions of violence and horror.
Those who are able will leave Bedford before the darkness fully ascends. But those who are trapped here from Susan Marley’s long-suffering mother and younger sister to her guilt-ridden, alcoholic ex-lover to the destitute and faithless with nowhere else to go will soon know the fullest and most terrible meaning of nightmare.

The cover caught my eye – sounds interesting…

Lamp Black, Wolf Grey
Paula Brackston (Snowbooks)
Publication Date: March 2010

Genre: Paranormal

Goodreads Summary:

Some landscapes hold more magic than others. Artist Laura Matthews finds her new home in the Welsh mountains to be a place so charged with tales and legends, so teeming with the force of the supernatural, that she is able to reach through the gossamer-fine veil that separates her own world from that of myth and fable. She and her husband Dan have given up their city life and moved to Blaencwm, an ancient longhouse high in the hills. Here she knows that the wild beauty will inspire her to produce her best art. And here she hopes that the powerful nature of the place will give her the baby they have longed for so many years.
But this high valley is home to others, too. Others such as Rhys, the charismatic loner from the croft, who pursues Laura with a fervour bordering on obsession. And Anwen, the wise old woman from the neighbouring farm who seems to know so much but talks in riddles. And then there is Merlin. “Lamp Black, Wolf Grey” tells both Laura’s story and Merlin’s. For one he too walked these hills, with his faithful grey wolf at his heel. It was here he fell in love with Megan, nurse-maid to the children of the hated local noble, Lord Geraint. Merlin was young, at the start of his career as a seer and magician, but already his reputation had gone before him. When he refuses to help Lord Geraint it is Megan who will pay the price.

So, that’s what’s on my wishlist this week – what’s on yours?

OMG I loved Lois Duncan books as a teenager! I read all of them (at the time). Although I think I'd be kind of scared about going back and reading them now, that I wouldn't like them as much as an adult. :)

Like Laura I remember reading I Know What I Did Last Summer as a teen and loving it – in fact I think I was disappointed by the film when I first saw it!

Some very creepy book choices there…

I've been on a creepy, freaky kick, it looks like you're having a horror week, lol.

I've never seen the movie I Know What You Did Last Summer or read the book – I feel sort of weird about that now. :)

Ooo great book picks. I'll have to check some of them out when/if I ever finish the ridiculous amount of books I have.

I've been meaning to do this for awhile so I figured I'd give it a shot this Saturday.
