On My Wishlist (#59)

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It’s where I list all the books I desperately want but haven’t actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. It’s also an event that you can join in with too – Mr Linky is always at the ready for you to link your own ‘On My Wishlist’ post. If you want to know more click here.
This sounds fabuloso!!

Hard Spell (Supernatural Crimes #1)
Justin Gustainis (Angry Robot)
Publication Date: March 2011

Genre: Urban Fantasy

Author’s Website:

The novels are set in an “alternate” Scranton, PA, where werewolves, vampires, and other “denizens of the night” are recognized and accepted, if not always trusted. And since supernatural creatures (“supes,” as they are called by insensitive mortals) sometimes break the law, there have to be specially trained police to deal with them. Stan Markowski is one of those cops. He’s a Detective Sergeant on the Scranton PD’s Supernatural Crimes Investigation Unit (which everybody calls “The Supe Squad”). As Stan puts it in the first book, “When a vampire puts the bite on an unwilling victim, or some witch casts the wrong kind of spell, that’s when they call me. My name’s Markowski. I carry a badge.”

I loved the Vampire Academy series, so I can’t wait to get my hands on this book, which is a spin off series featuring Sydney as the main character. This is the cover for the US Edition.

Bloodlines (Bloodlines #1)
Richelle Mead (Razorbill)
Publication Date: Aug 2011

Genre: Urban Fantasy
Young Adult

Author’s Website:

Bloodlines is the spin-off series to Vampire Academy (it’s the name of the first book and of the series). It’s set in the VA world but will be about different characters: Sydney (our narrator), Jill, Eddie, and one of the love interests from VA.

This sounds good – another new-to-me urban fantasy series :)

Black Wings (Madeleine Black #1)
Christina Henry (Ace)
Publication Date: Nov 2010

Genre: Urban Fantasy

Goodreads Summary:

As an Agent of Death, Madeline Black is responsible for escorting the souls of the dearly departed to the afterlife. It’s a 24/7 job with a lousy benefits package.
Maddy’s position may come with magical powers and an impressive wingspan, but it doesn’t pay the bills. And then there are her infuriating boss, tenant woes, and a cranky, popcorn-loving gargoyle to contend with.

Things start looking up, though, when tall, dark, and handsome Gabriel Angeloscuro agrees to rent the empty apartment in Maddy’s building. It’s probably just a coincidence that as soon as he moves in demons appear on the front lawn. But when an unholy monster is unleashed upon the streets of Chicago, Maddy discovers powers she never knew she possessed. Powers linked to a family legacy of tarnished halos.
Powers that place her directly between the light of Heaven and the fires of Hell…

This sounds really good – I love these sort of books!

Infected (Infected #1)
Scott Sigler (Hodder)
Publication Date: July 2010

Genre: Horror

Goodreads Summary:

They dropped from the atmosphere like microscopic snow. Billions of seeds, smaller than specks of dust, spiralling down from the heavens. A few survived, and began to grow.
Now three people face a race against time. Dew Phillips, an agent with a classified unit of the CIA, and Margaret Montoya, a government biologist, must try to stop a modern plague that drives its victims to insanity, murder and suicide.
And Perry Dawsey, an ex-footballer in a dead-end job, must race to find a cure for the rash that has appeared on his arm. And his back. And his neck. And which is getting bigger.
And then the voices start.

So that’s what’s on my wishlist this week – what’s on yours!
