2011 Summer Romance Reading Challenge If you are a regular reader of BCC, you will know that I’m more of a Horror/Urban Fantasy fan than one for romance. However, I have found that I am now reading more from the romance genre than usual after having dipped my toes into the genre for the first time last year, which is why I’m hosting my summer romance reading challenge again this year. Last time I set myself the target of 16 books… and totally failed. But I’m determined to do better…

In Enemy Hands by K. S. Augustin Carina Press (May 2010) | Ebook, 257 Pages Sci-Fi Romance In Enemy Hands was a little inconsistent for me. I swung between enjoying it and getting frustrated with the pace. Set in the future, Moon is a scientist working on a ground-breaking project to re-animate dead stars. But, most of the Galaxy is controlled by the brutal and uncompromising Republic where failure would mean death, or even worse exile. Moon is assigned the extraordinarily clever Srin Flerovs as her research partner. So intelligent is Srin,…

I have the pleasure of welcoming Sara Creasy to Book Chick City today. Sara is the author behind the ‘Scarabaeus‘ series. Sara grew up in the West Midlands, UK but moved to Australia when she was a teenager. She has a degree in biology, was associate editor of Australia’s science fiction and fantasy magazine Aurealis for several years, which inspired her to write her first novel, ‘Song of Scarabaeus‘. Marriage to an American resulted in a second intercontinental move, and she lived in Arizona for five years. She now lives…

I am very excited to have science fiction writer, Marianne de Pierres on Book Chick City today, although this isn’t her first visit BCC. Marianne also wrote a post for my “where stories are made” feature! Marianne is the author of the ‘Parrish Plessis‘ series (book #1, ‘Nylon Angel‘, reviewed this morning), the ‘Sentients of Orion’ series, and more recently her young adult series, ‘Night Creatures‘. Please give a warm welcome to Marianne… Particle Physics, say what? I’m often asked about the research side of being a SF novelist. How…

Nylon Angel (Parrish Plessis #1) by Marianne de Pierres Orbit Books (UK, Jan 2004) Paperback, 330 pages Science Fiction In a world where the rich live behind the safety of a giant fortress wall and everyone else can go to hell, Parrish Plessis has learnt some useful survival tactics. Like don’t cross Jamon Hondo – unless you want to be dead by the morning. But heck, what’s a girl supposed to do when the one chance she may have of escaping from his grubby, stinking paws presents itself? Anyway, it’s hard…
‘Where Stories Are Made‘ is a new feature here at Book Chick City. It’s where the author takes us on a tour of their writing place, be it an office, coffee shop or park and tells us about their writing day and rituals. My guest today is science fiction writer, Justina Robson… Yes, I am one of those procrastinating types. Grr, how annoying are we to deal with? Very, I know, and can only apologise. I would have abandoned it as a way of life by now if it wasn’t…
