On My Wishlist (#71)

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It’s where I list all the books I desperately want but haven’t actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. It’s also an event that you can join in with too – Mr Linky is always at the ready for you to link your own ‘On My Wishlist’ post. If you want to know more click here.
I haven’t read Ms Marr’s YA books, and I probably won’t as I’m not that fond of Fae, but this is her first adult novel and sounds much more like my kind of read :)

Graveminder
Melissa Marr (Harper Collins)
Publication Date: July 2011

Genre: Urban Fantasy
Goodreads Summary:

Rebekkah Barrow never forgot the tender attention her grandmother, Maylene, bestowed upon the dead of Claysville, the town where Bek spent her adolescence. There wasn’t a funeral that Maylene didn’t attend, and at each Rebekkah watched as Maylene performed the same unusual ritual: three sips from a small silver flask followed by the words “Sleep well, and stay where I put you.”
Now Maylene is dead and Bek must go back to the place—and the man—she left a decade ago. But what she soon discovers is that Maylene was murdered and that there was good reason for her odd traditions. It turns out that in placid Claysville, the worlds of the living and the dead are dangerously connected. Beneath the town lies a shadowy, lawless land ruled by the enigmatic Charles, aka Mr. D—a place from which the dead will return if their graves are not properly minded. Only the Graveminder, a Barrow woman, and the current Undertaker, Byron, can set things to right once the dead begin to walk.

Love the title of this one – sounds great!

Goddess With A Blade
Lauren Dane (Carina Press)
Publication Date: June 2011

Genre: Urban Fantasy
Goodreads Summary:

Armed with a blessed blade and blood from a goddess, Rowan Summerwaite’s got a divine mission. Embodying a Vampire’s worst nightmare is a big job, but someone’s got to do it.
Freshly returned from a political firestorm that erupted after she’d executed the last Scion, Rowan hopes for a period of peace and quiet with the new replacement.

But before long, human women are being found in and around Las Vegas and it’s clear to her the killer is a Vampire. Clive Stewart rules his Vampires with an iron fist in the wake of a spectacular failure on the part of his predecessor. He doesn’t make the mistake of underestimating The Hunter. He knows she’s a predator just like him so he agrees to help her investigation. Within limits.
But nothing between Clive and Rowan stays within the lines and before long, things are tangled and dangerous both personally and professionally

This sounds really good and I’ve been seeing quite a lot of positivity about it on twitter and Goodreads.

Dragon Bound (Elder Races #1)
Thea Harrison (Berkley)
Publication Date: May 2011

Genre: Paranormal Romance
Goodreads Summary:

Half-human and half-wyr, Pia Giovanni spent her life keeping a low profile among the wyrkind and avoiding the continuing conflict between them and their dark Fae enemies. But after being blackmailed into stealing a coin from the hoard of a dragon, Pia finds herself targeted by one of the most powerful-and passionate-of the Elder races.

I *adore* the ‘Guild Hunter‘ series and so I can’t wait for this book to be released. I was surprised to see this instalment will be about Dmitri and not following on with Elena and Raphael, but I think this may be a good move as it was getting a bit formulaic, maybe this will spice things up again…I do dislike this cover though – that *is not* how I imagined Dmitri, urgh ;)

Archangel’s Blade (Guild Hunter #4)
Nalini Singh (Berkley Sensation | Gollancz)
Publication Date: Oct 2011

Genre: Urban Fantasy | Paranormal Romance
Goodreads Summary:

The severed head marked by a distinctive tattoo on its cheek should have been a Guild case, but dark instincts honed over hundreds of years of life compel the vampire Dmitri to take control. There is something twisted about this death, something that whispers of centuries long past…but Dmitri’s need to discover the truth is nothing to the vicious strength of his response to the hunter assigned to decipher the tattoo.
Savaged in a brutal attack that almost killed her, Honor is nowhere near ready to come face to face with the seductive vampire who is an archangel’s right hand, and who wears his cruelty as boldly as his lethal sensuality…the same vampire who has been her secret obsession since the day she was old enough to understand the inexplicable, violent emotions he aroused in her.
As desire turns into a dangerous compulsion that might destroy them both, it becomes clear the past will not stay buried. Something is hunting…and it will not stop until it brings a blood-soaked nightmare to life once more…

So that’s what’s on my wishlist this week – what’s on yours?

So need to add guild hunter. And Melissa Marr is fantastic, her fae books are great, but very dark and gritty for YA Urban Fantasy. I think that's why I liked them so much.
