2011 Summer Romance Reading Challenge

If you are a regular reader of BCC, you will know that I’m more of a Horror/Urban Fantasy fan than one for romance. However, I have found that I am now reading more than usual after having dipped my toes into the romance genres for the first time last year. So, to celebrate this continued love of romance, I have decided to host my short summer romance reading challenge again this year.

Last time I set myself the target of 16 books… and totally failed. But I’m determined to do better this time around, and I hope you’ll join me! There will also be a little surprise giveaway at the end of the challenge!

There are many sub-genres under the ‘romance’ umbrella and I have listed them below. I hope you will join me in what I hope will be a summer of love and discovery! Hehe! Button and guidelines below.
Timeline: 1st June 2011 ~ 30th Sept 2011. Only books started on June 1st count towards this challenge.

Details:

1. Anyone can join. You don’t need a blog to participate.

2. 4 months, 8 books – that’s doable, right? Or if you want to push yourself further, double it to 16!!

3. Any book format counts except audiobooks.

5. The books you choose can crossover into other challenges you have on the go.

6. If you decide to participate in this challenge with me, please use the link I have set up below with the button to post on your sidebar, this way others can find their way back to this post and join in the fun. Also, be sure to create a post telling others with a link back to this post so others can join in.

8. You can link your reviews HERE to be entered into the prize draw at the end of the challenge. Prize/s will be chosen at the end of the challenge. You must have at least a challenge post or the button on sidebar to be eligible for entry.
9. You can view my progress HERE.

When you sign up under Mr. Linky, please add the DIRECT URL to your Summer Romance Challenge post, NOT your blog URL. This way other participants can read about your progress and give support.

Is it OK if I'm writing my review blog in Hungarian? But reading will be mostly in English and will post shorter rewievs to goodreads…

I'm not an avid Romance Reader, but this challenge is just what I need to read something new!

Do we have to pick just one sub-genre for the whole 4 months? And once I link up my blog post, do I have to edit that post to show everyone my progress instead of creating a new post? This will be my first challenge, I'm excited!

I'm in – my third challenge of the year lol, but I reckon I can easily do 8 in 4 months :-)

Lobo – That's fine :)

Emma – Yay! Hope you have fun :)

Teaberry – I'm not an avid fan but summer always brings out the romance in me :)

Annabell – As long as the book is romance that's all that is required. If you write a post and use it to list your progress that you only need one link :)

Laura – The fact that you are going on holiday this week will surely help ;)

SORRY. I had a blonde moment. My 1st Linky needs to be deleted if possible. I didn't put the correct link. 2nd one is good.
This sounds fun and it gives us lots of time.
Thanks!

I've been looking for the perfect summer challenge, and this one looks like exactly what I want! One question, though — how narrowly is "romance" being defined? Would it include chick lit with a strong romantic plotline? What about something like Gail Carriger's "Parasol Protectorate" series, which has a strong romance but is primarily a steampunk/fantasy novel?

Reply

Book Chick City June 29, 2011 at 9:51 am

@Chrisina Reads -If you think it is more romance, then add it. I can't really comment as I haven't read the book, but overall I would say 'Chick-Lit' isn't really 'romance'. As for Parasol Protectorate, I would class that as paranormal romance.

Hi I'm starting late but since I read some romances I don't think I'll be too behind. I set my link up to my challenge page with links to my reviews from there. I love romances in the summer!

I have been participating in "Paris in July" and that almost ends so I love any romance novel. I look forward to joining the challenge. Count me in. Hopefully, I will be able to use some of the books that I read on the other challenge. Why have romance only in February.
