KITTY NORVILLE MONTH: Interview with Carrie Vaughn (Part 2) + Giveaway!
I love urban fantasy and I’ve wanted to read the Kitty Norville series for some time. So this month I will be reviewing all the books in the series, I also have a fantastic interview with the author, Carrie Vaughn, an interview with Kitty herself, a guest post from book cover designer, Nick Castle, and a fab giveaway! I hope you enjoy!
This is the second part of my interview with the fab, Carrie Vaughn (click HERE for part 1). Thanks again to Carrie for answering my questions.
As well as the Kitty Norville series, Carrie is the author of After the Golden Age published 2011 and young adult novels: Voices of Dragons published 2010 and Steel published 2011. Carrie currently lives in Boulder, Colorado.
One lucky reader has the chance to win the entire Kitty series, so make sure you enter at the end of the interview. So without further ado, let’s get going with interview part two…

What do you do to relax when you’re not writing?
I’m pretty crafty — knitting, sewing, costuming. I walk my dog, watch movies, try to spend a lot of time outside.
What kind of books do you read yourself, and who are your favourite authors?
I read a little bit of everything. I love a good space opera, and beautifully written stand-alone fantasy. My must read authors right now are Robin McKinley, Patricia McKillip, Lois McMaster Bujold, and Steven Erikson.
What’s the worst piece of advice given to you while you where struggling to get published?
“You have to write to the market, and you have to know somebody to break into publishing.” Because both of those aren’t true, but they sound true so people repeat them a lot. What worked for me: write what you love, and keep trying.
What’s the weirdest thing a fan has said or sent to you?
I’ve gotten a couple of emails from people who insist that I must have special knowledge about werewolves because I write about them so realistically. Those leave me scratching my head.
What’s you favourite genre or author to read on a long journey?
Usually whatever I happen to be reading. No particular favorite.
Favourite comfort food?
Mexican food. Ice cream.
What’s your favourite city?
I have lots: Denver, London, New York.
Tell us one thing readers may be surprised to know about you?
I don’t know — I’m not all that surprising! I used to do a lot of acting when I was in high school…
Favourite song/band to chill out to?
Again, too many to name! I like Paul Simon, and an obscure band from my college days called Too Much Joy.
Ice-cream or chocolate?
Chocolate ice cream of course.
If you could meet any urban fantasy heroine, who would it be?
Kitty! The rest of them scare me a little.
Quiet or chaos?
Depends. I like a balance of both.
Organisation or disarray?
My disarray is actually pretty organized.
Sunrise or sunset?
Sunset.
Thanks Carrie!

I do enjoy a good author interview it's great to get to know the person behind the book.
I've read on of Robin McKinley's books (which Carrrie mentions as one of her favourites) and I keep hearing such good things about them I should really pick up another

Great interview…it must be a little odd to have fans believe you have some intimate knowledge of werewolves…
I've heard so many time about 'writing to the market'. you do start to believe it but it is a little depressing. Thanks for the advice
