I love urban fantasy and I’ve wanted to read the Kitty Norville series for some time. So this month I will be reviewing all the books in the series, I also have a fantastic interview with the author, Carrie Vaughn, an interview with Kitty herself, a guest post from book cover designer, Nick Castle, and a fab giveaway! I hope you enjoy!

I think both the US (published by Tor) and UK (published by Gollancz) editions are nice, but I must say the UK covers win hands down for me – they are just so atmospheric and a lot softer but still striking, the US covers are a bit garish with the bright colours. I also love the way each cover is true to the book and characters.
So what do you guys think? Do you like the covers equally, or find that you can’t bear to look at the UK covers and totally heart the US editions? Let me know what you think
Big hugs to Jenny @WondrousReads who kindly allowed me to borrow her “UK vs US” feature for my Kitty Norville event

I've always preferred the UK covers for the Kitty books. I like the realistic images.

I actually prefer the US ones I think…the UK ones start off well but I don't like them as they go on really.

I'm going to have to disagree with you Carolyn (which is quite unusual), I prefer the US ones. I much prefer illustrations on book covers than realistic images. Particularly hate it when they put photos from TV or film adaptations. Although not a fan of the 'Kitty Takes a Holiday' cover.

Scooper – I'm not one for photography on covers but out of the two I like the UK ones best.
Cait – Yes, I agree, the first few UK ones are better than some of the last…
Laura – Hehe, that's ok. Yes, I don't usually like photographs of models on covers, but the US model is a photograph I think with an illustrated animal. But in this case I still prefer the UK ones. And I'm with you on movie adaptations, I always buy the original book

I like the right version more. BUT both are thousand times better than the German cover versions!

I prefer the US ones because they look less like photos to me which I usually detest on books. But the UK ones could be a lot worse!

I hate the first three US covers. I almost didn't pick this series up because of the insanity of the red text on the blue cover for Kitty and the Midnight Hour. But I think the US covers definitely take a turn for the better with Kitty and the Silver Bullet. I'm also not the biggest fan of so many covers being yellow. It seems like when Tor started publishing the series with Kitty Goes to War, they decided yellow was the way to go. I hope future novels switch up the color like Grand Central did with the first seven.
The UK covers are pretty. I can't say that I like them more, because I'm used to the US covers, but I really like them. The one tiny thing I don't like it the font choice for "Kitty" in all of the titles. But I definitely like that the UK covers have more detail in the background.

I don't know…both versions of the Kitty novel covers are good, but I think I have to go with the US versions. Not that the UK covers aren't bad, but they don't stand out like the US ones do. It seems like publishers are going the real model route for a lot of covers and there's only so much you can do without some digital art. For me, a cover has to stand out for me to pick it up and I don't think the UK covers would with the current crop of novels.
