CAROLYN’S WISHLIST

I LOVE this series and cannot wait for ‘Sacrificial Magic‘ – this series is just SO good I’ve been waiting for this next book for what seems like eternity and I still have six months to go – it’s torture! This is the US cover.

Sacrificial Magic (Downside Ghosts #4)
Stacia Kane (Del Rey/Harper Voyager)
Publication Date: March 2011
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Goodreads

Summary:

When Chess Putnam is ordered by an infamous crime boss—who also happens to be her drug dealer—to use her powers as a witch to solve a grisly murder involving dark magic, she knows she must rise to the challenge. Adding to the intensity: Chess’s boyfriend, Terrible, doesn’t trust her, and Lex, the son of a rival crime lord, is trying to reignite the sparks between him and Chess.

Plus there’s the little matter of Chess’s real job as a ghost hunter for the Church of Real Truth, investigating reports of a haunting at a school in the heart of Downside. Someone seems to be taking a crash course in summoning the dead—and if Chess doesn’t watch her back, she may soon be joining their ranks.

As Chess is drawn into a shadowy world of twisted secrets and dark violence, it soon becomes clear that she’s not going to emerge from its depths without making the ultimate sacrifice. (Goodreads)

This sounds like it could be a fun and original urban fantasy. I’m definitely looking forward to reading this one when it’s released!

Hellsbane (Hellsbane #1)
Paige Cuccaro (Entangled Publishing)
Publication Date: Dec 2011
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Goodreads

Summary:

Emma Jane Hellsbane always knew she was different, but she had no idea she wasn’t even human. Well, at least she’s half-human. She’s half-fallen angel, too, and now dear ol’ dad wants her dead. All the Fallen angels want all their troublesome offspring removed from the mortal coil so she’s trying not to take it personally. Besides, she wants him dead just as much. Her father’s death is the only way she’ll be forgiven for his sin, stop those pesky demons from trying to hack off her head, and have any hope at all of getting back to a normal life as a wicked slick Intuitive Consciousness Explorer.
Of course, first she’ll have to figure out which fallen angel is her father, avoid accidentally seducing her angelic mentor, help an old friend conquer his own fallen sperm donor, and basically save the world from a cataclysmic divine smack down.

No problem. With a last name like Hellsbane, Emma Jane was definitely born for the job. (Goodreads)
LAURA’S WISHLIST

This book is such a classic, I’ve seen the film many times and just love it, but it’s one of those books I’ve never got around to reading. And of course, we all know the book is always better than the film!

The Princess Bride

William Goldman (Ballantine Books)
Publication Date: Sept 2003 (originally published Dec 1973)
Genre: Classics / Romance
Goodreads

Summary:

What happens when the most beautiful girl in the world marries the handsomest prince of all time and he turns out to be…well…a lot less than the man of her dreams?

As a boy, William Goldman claims, he loved to hear his father read the “S. Morgenstern classic, The Princess Bride. But as a grown-up he discovered that the boring parts were left out of good old Dad’s recitation, and only the “good parts” reached his ears.

Now Goldman does Dad one better. He’s reconstructed the “Good Parts Version” to delight wise kids and wide-eyed grownups everywhere.

What’s it about? Fencing. Fighting. True Love. Strong Hate. Harsh Revenge. A Few Giants. Lots of Bad Men. Lots of Good Men. Five or Six Beautiful Women. Beasties Monstrous and Gentle. Some Swell Escapes and Captures. Death, Lies, Truth, Miracles, and a Little Sex. In short, it’s about everything. (Goodreads)

This looks like a great new paranormal romance series!

Unleashed (The Amoveo Legend #1)
Sara Humphreys (Sourcebooks Casablanca)
Publication Date: October 2011
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Goodreads

Summary:

What if you suddenly discovered your own powers were beyond anything you’d ever imagined…

Samantha Logan’s childhood home had always been a haven, but everything changed while she was away. She has a gorgeous new neighbor, Malcolm, who introduces her to the amazing world of the dream-walking, shapeshifting Amoveo clans…but what leaves her reeling with disbelief is when he tells her she’s one of them…

And shock turns to terror as Samantha falls prey to the deadly enemy determined to destroy the Amoveo, and the only chance she has to come into her true powers is to trust in Malcolm to show her the way… (Goodreads)

I have read The Princess Bride and it's just as much fun as the film! I love it – in the same sort of vein as the books of The Last Unicorn and The Never-Ending Story the books is as good the film!
