All Hallow’s Eve 2011 – ‘Where Stories Are Made’ with paranormal mystery writer, Victoria Laurie
by Carolyn • Posted in Uncategorized
‘Where Stories Are Made‘ is a regular feature here at Book Chick City. It’s where the author takes us on a tour of their writing place, be it an office, coffee shop or park and tells us about their writing day and rituals.
My guest today is paranormal mystery author, Victoria Laurie…
New York Times bestselling author and real-life professional psychic Victoria Laurie drew from her former career as a gifted intuitive to create the characters of Abigail Cooper and M.J. Holliday. She currently lives in the beautiful city of Austin, Texas with two spoiled dachshunds, Lily and Toby, and one opinionated parrot named Doc.

I live in a lovely home in central Austin, about ten minutes from downtown. My neighborhood is quiet and peaceful – the perfect ambiance for a writer.
My home is fairly modest in size, which is just the way I like it. And, of course, my favorite room is my office, which is fabulous because I certainly spend enough time there!

The things I love about my workspace are that it overlooks my garden; that the view isn’t so breathtaking that I become distracted; that it’s painted this beautiful dusky rose, (I know, it looks pink in the photos but it’s much more dusky rose in person.) It’s such a soothing color to me. Ensconced in it I’m happy and willing to work long hours.

I also love that my office is minimal and neat. And it is always neat. If I feel cluttered I feel claustrophobic and I can’t concentrate.

I also love that Doc gets to share the space with me. He keeps me entertained and his wolf whistles, cat calls, and announcements of being a “good bird!” help lighten the workday.

Mostly I love that there are no cubicles, florescent lighting, or office politics to deal with. And you can’t beat the ten-pace commute in the morning. I save a ton on gas.

I really love this feature
Nice work space – I work better in uncluttered surroundings – doesn't happen often though
