Welcome to the 100 Books In A Year Challenge 2012! I haven’t done too badly with this challenge, but I still failed. At present I’m on book 72 and I imagine I will add another few before the year is out. This is the second year I haven’t reached my personal goal of 100, so I’m hoping 2012 will be my year!

In 2011 I had an amazing 630 participants!! All I can say is, WOW! So I hope you will join in again this year too! For more details see below.

SIGN-UP DETAILS

To sign up you MUST make a post on your blog about participating in the challenge – you then use the DIRECT URL of the post to sign up to the challenge by adding it to Mr Linky below. DO NOT just add your blog URL – this will be deleted.

You must add the button to your sidebar – make sure that it links back to this post so others can join the challenge if they wish. Easiest way to do this is to copy and paste the code displayed below!CHALLENGE DETAILS

Timeline: 01 Jan 2012 – 31 Dec 2012
Rules: Read 100+ books in 2012 (any genre)
You don’t have to select your books ahead of time, you can just add them as you go. Also if you do list them upfront you can change them, nothing is set in stone! The books you choose can crossover into other challenges you have on the go.
You can join at anytime. All books read in 2012 count towards the challenge regardless of when you sign up.
At the beginning of Jan 2012, you will find a link to specific month to add your reviews.
UPDATE: Audiobooks are now accepted.
Only fiction, no non-fiction.
This challenge can crossover to other challenges.
You DO NOT have to write reviews of the books you read, but if you decide to then Mr Linky will be available each month so you can link up your reviews.
You don’t have to have a blog to join in – for those without a blog but who use Goodreads, Amazon, LibraryThing etc, you can add the URL to where you track your books. If you don’t have a URL at all then choose a name you would like to use and then copy and paste the following link:

I'm looking to push myself in 2012. I've read a little over 100 this year, and I want to make it over 150 next year.

But 2012 is going to be different because I'm reviewing also, so I may read a little slower.

I wish it were practical for me to read 100 books in a year. I don’t read during the academic year, except for during breaks (Thanksgiving, Winter, Spring Break, and Summer). I’m very committed to my studies, and so during the year, I read textbooks, not real books. But I love reading, and I miss doing it for fun. Right now I’m reading The Notebook as my first book for the summer!

I am doing well in this challenge as I until now have read 63 books.

I was really disappointed that you don’t allow audiobooks.

I have a disability that means I’m unable to hold a book. Being on benefit because of my disability means that I’m unable to afford a kindle (or something similar) and both of these things were very distressing to me, having been an avid reader all of my life. Audiobooks are a godsend because of this. Okay, it’s not as good as reading for yourself, but when it’s your only access to the vast array of literature out there…

Perhaps you didn’t consider people with disabilities when you complied your rules… I feel a bit sad at being unable to compete in a challenge like this and thought I ought to bring this issue to your attention for future challenges.

I’ve been reading and keeping up with my books this year – but I’ve just noticed that the banner and button I got from you guys in December/January is now gone. I now only have the flikr error message. Any idea what’s going on there? Or where I can get a new one?

Oops challenge was closed by the time I went to update my total!

91 books!!!

I didnt quite make it but was so close X-( I’m sure there were some short stories I didnt count because they were too short but I’m pretty happy!
