I’m very pleased to welcome author Linda Wisdom to the blog today. Linda is the author of numerous novels in many genres including paranormal and contemporary romance and romantic adventure. But she is most well known to us here at BCC for her witchy paranormal romance series, Jaz Tremaine (of which we reviewed Hex in High Heels) and her sexy Demons series. Please give a warm welcome to Linda.
Thank you Carolyn for asking me to blog here about my Top Ten! It seems appropriate for my list to deal with my top ten witches.
I’m sure you’ll know most, if not all and perhaps can come up with some of your own.
I tried putting this in order but I realized it wasn’t easy. They all wanted to be at the top. :}
So here’s my list (perhaps with an extra witch included for fun!) and I’d like to hear who you can think of or comments on my choices.
1. One memorable witch, of course — The Wizard of Oz’s Wicked Witch of the West. Evil seeps through her green skin. Something you do best to avoid along with her flying monkeys. If you want to see the dark side of magic, stick with her. But keep a glass of water on hand, just in case.
2. Endora from Bewitched — Many times I adored Endora more than Samantha. This witch didn’t suffer fools lightly. Her make up was over the top, but that didn’t matter when she could do anything with a wave of her hand. She was the witch who resided on various magickal planes, traveled the world, and still wasn’t above turning her son-in-law into a variety of farm animals.
3. Samantha from Bewitched – How many of us adored and probably still enjoy, the perky blonde witch with the twitchy nose? She tried to not use her power because of love but we all know that didn’t work out. Personally, I’d use it for housework and cooking.
4. Sabrina the Teenage Witch – Naturally, I threw in Sabrina who with Salem, her cat, managed to survive her teen years and learn magic at the same time.
5. Jennifer from the movie I Married A Witch – This is one of my favorite movies and shows up on TCM every so often. A witch in Olde Salem who’s burned at the stake and levels a curse on the descendants of the man behind her execution. When she’s released in the 1940s, she falls in love with that descendant and uses her power to bind him. Except we both know that love will win.
6. Sally Owens in Practical Magic – Sally is a witch who wanted to abandon her gift for awhile. But magic doesn’t allow that.
7. Witch Hazel from Looney Tunes – I have always enjoyed watching the few cartoons Witch Hazel is in. That laugh! She’s Potions R Us. Sometimes looking for Prince Charming or desiring that pesky rabbit in a stew.
8. Wendy The Good Little Witch – Casper the Ghost’s best friend and what can I say? Flat out cute. I had to add her.
9. Jazz Tremaine from 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover and Hex Appeal – What can I say? I have to include at least one of my witches here. Jazz is one of my favorites. She’s powerful, snarky, and knows how to work it with a pair of man-eating bunny slippers.
10. Lili Carter from A Demon Does It Better – How often can we say witch doctor and mean it? Yes, Lili’s a witch, a doctor and even treats mundanes along with members of the pretenatural community. Not many supernatural healers will do that. She’s loyal to her friends, doesn’t think twice about going out on a ledge and she’s there for her patients. I’d want her for my doctor.
11. Willow – Did any of us expect Buffy’s geeky best friend to end up an all powerful witch? Willow showed what can happen if you allow your dark side to take over. And what it takes to bring you back into the light.
