On My Wishlist (#110)

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It’s where we list all the books we desperately want but haven’t actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming. It’s also an event that you can join in with too – Mr Linky is always at the ready for you to link your own ‘On My Wishlist’ post. If you want to know more click here.

CAROLYN’S WISHLIST

I’ve not read anything by this author before, mainly because his previous books are more in the epic fantasy genre, which I’m not really too fond of. However, this one sounds more like it’s in the urban fantasy genre, and it’s about angels… I do think the cover’s a bit crap though – for such a successful fantasy writer he really should have been given something better!

The Dirty Streets of Heaven (Bobby Dollar #1)
Tad Williams (DAW)
Publication Date: Sept 2012
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Buy Your Copy: Amazon UK | US

Summary:

Bobby Dollar would like to know what he was like when he was alive, but too much of his time is spent working as an extremely minor functionary in the heavenly host judging recently departed souls. Until the day a soul goes missing, presumed stolen by ‘the other side’. A new chapter in the war between heaven and hell is about to open. And Bobby is right in the middle of it, with only a desirable but deadly demon to aid him. (Goodreads)
This looks awesome! It’s already been out for a while in the US, but the new UK imprint Berkley UK is releasing it here in the UK this April!

The Iron Duke (Iron Seas #1)
Meljean Brook (Berkley UK)
Publication Date: April 2012
Genre: Urban Fantasy | Steampunk
Buy Your Copy: AmazonUK | US

Summary:

After the Iron Duke freed England from Horde control, he instantly became a national hero. Now Rhys Trahaearn has built a merchant empire on the power – and fear – of his name. And when a dead body is dropped from an airship onto his doorstep, bringing Detective Inspector Mina Wentworth into his dangerous world, he intends to make her his next possession.

Mina can’t afford his interest, however. Horde blood runs through her veins, and becoming Rhys’s lover would destroy both her career and her family, yet the investigation prevents her from avoiding him.

But when Mina uncovers the victim’s identity, she stumbles upon a conspiracy that threatens the lives of everyone in England. To save them, Mina and Rhys must race across zombie-infested wastelands and treacherous oceans – and Mina discovers the danger is not only to her countrymen as she finds herself tempted to give up everything to the Iron Duke. (Goodreads)

LAURA’S WISHLIST

I do like books about shifters, I think it’s probably because I love the Mercy Thompson books so much. But, I came across this one and thought that it sounded like a good one.

Other (Other #1)
Karen Kincy (Flux)
Publication Date: July 2010
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Buy Your Copy: Amazon UK | US

Summary:
Gwen Williams has been hiding a strange and fantastic secret: she’s a shapeshifter. Although society may tolerate vampires, centaurs, and “Others” like Gwen, there are plenty of folks in her small Washington town who don’t care for her kind.

When a new werewolf pack moves into the area, tensions rise—and Others start showing up dead, including someone close to Gwen. Despite the methodical murders, the police are ignoring evidence that suggests a serial killer. In the midst of terrible loss and danger, Gwen—along with a mysterious and sexy guy who happens to be a Japanese fox spirit—risks her life to find the murderer. But Gwen is already the killer’s next target. (Goodreads)

Words cannot express just how excited I am about this new series by Jeaniene Frost about Vlad. I really cannot wait! And the summary sounds awesome :-D
Once Burned (Night Prince #1)
Jeaniene Frost (HarperCollins)
Publication Date: June 2012
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Buy Your Copy: Amazon UK | US

Summary:

She’s a mortal with dark powers…

After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person’s darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude… until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world’s most infamous vampire…

He’s the Prince of Night…

Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all — but whatever you do, don’t call him Dracula. Vlad’s ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him – a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them, threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they are to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames. (Goodreads)

So, that’s what’s on our wishlist this week – what’s on yours?
