MONTHLY RECS ~ April 2012

CAROLYN

This month has been a great reading month, I’ve read lots of fab (mostly zombie) books. But these three are my recommendations of the month. To start off with, WHITE HORSE by Alex Adams [UK|US] turned out to be a surprisingly great dystopian (review coming soon), DRAGON BOUND by Thea Harrison [UK|US] was a fantastic paranormal romance (review coming soon), and PLAGUE TOWN by Dana Fredsti [UK|US] was a fast-paced zombie horror with a great leading heroine (review here). All receiving an 8/10 from me, and all three I would recommend you read!

LAURA

I’ve read a lot of urban fantasy this month, which can only be a good thing as it’s probably my favourite genre! I’ve read two good starts to new series unusually for me by male writers, as I do tend to generally prefer female writers for some reason. These are BLOOD AND BULLETS by James R. Tuck [UK|US] and HARD SPELL by Justin Gustainis [UK|US]. I had some issues with both books, but by the time I reached their endings I thoroughly enjoyed them. But my favourite book of the month simply has to be ROYAL STREET by Suzanne Johnson [UK|US], which is actually also a start to a new series. I really loved it and read it in just over a day. Carolyn and I did a joint review of the book at the beginning of the month, and unusually for us we both disagreed as Carolyn did not like it as much as I did. You can read our joint review here, if you missed it. But I would definitely recommend it!

REBECCA

This month I have read so many great books for BCC, and I know I keep talking repeatedly about this book, but ANNA DRESSED IN BLOOD by Kendare Blake [UK|US] was by far the best book I have read in a long time! The characters pulled me in, and Anna is just so different from any other character I’ve ever read about. The plotline also has so much scope, and I was pleasantly surprised and excited by this book! (review coming soon!). And before I ramble on too much about it, the next book I recommend wasn’t a review book for BCC, just a book for personal enjoyment. This was THE SNOWMAN by Jo Nesbo [UK|US], which is a brilliant crime thriller with some truly shocking moments and gory deaths. Every death is accompanied by the appearance of a snowman, with detective Harry Hole having to go to drastic lengths to find the killer…

VICKIE

Ah, I have been lazy this month, and I had started off sooo well. I have been introduced to new authors, and caught up with some old ones, but my favourite read by far has to be by an old favourite, Gena Showalter, THE DARKEST SEDUCTION [UK|US], the ninth book in the Lords of the Underworld series . I could ramble on about this series for hours, totally love it! The strapping men, the sassy women, and the humour that has me sniggering and looking strange in public! Definitely recommend this series if you haven’t picked it up yet.

GEMMA

My first recommendation is SINS OF THE SON by Linda Poitevin [UK|US]. Though it isn’t action packed it has such a big improvement in plot since the first book, ‘Sins of the Angel’s’ and has a heck of a story that really packs a punch. By the end of it you are left gob smacked and wanting the next book to come out quickly (review coming soon). The only other series that I’ve been like this with is the ‘Black Dagger Brotherhood’ by JR Ward, which brings me nicely on to my second recommendation of the month, LOVER REBORN, the latest book in the series [UK|US].

Thanks for the recommendations.
"White Horse" is already on my wish list and "Plague Town" is a book that sounds pretty interesting.
