Welcome to our new feature where we talk about random things we’ve seen around the blogosphere. It could be an interesting article, a book trailer, maybe a fun piece of news we feel you should know about, and maybe even a stylish pair of shoes or handbag we’ve seen (if Laura has her way!). Basically, it’s a bit of a mashup! Enjoy…

Happy Monday everyone, it’s Laura here. Welcome to the first edition of Monday Mashup! Here’s some interesting news and bits and pieces I’ve come across on the web this week as well as a little special birthday wish. Enjoy!

Birthday Girl!

You may or may not know that it’s Carolyn’s birthday this week, so while I was doing a bit of web surfing the other day I came across this phenomenal birthday cake made by Cake Rhapsody in the US. To check it out just click here.

How cool?! I think it would be perfect for our very own Zombie Queen!

Happy Birthday Carolyn x o x

New Book for J K Rowling

Some of the biggest news from the publishing world this week has to be that J K Rowling has announced that she is going to be releasing a new adult book THE CASUAL VACANCY. Described as ‘a “blackly comic” tale about an idyllic town ripped apart by a parish council election.’

Anyone else a little disappointed by this description? Where’s the magic?! Where’s the Wizards and the Quidditch? I guess there are two schools of thought on this, that this gives Rowling a chance to show she can do something very different and still be successful. But if you’ve written books that millions of people around the world, including myself, love, what’s so wrong with sticking to what you do brilliantly? What do you think? Are you excited about this one?

The Olympics Has A Motto – Could You Have Done Better?

So, the London 2012 Olympics are looming ever closer. If I’m honest, the Olympics aren’t really my thing. I like the patriotic part and hope as a country we do well, but I’m a little over the hype. But, anyway this week they have released the motto for the games “Inspire a Generation” and I find I actually really like it. I definitely like it much more than the logo! What do you think?

Would You Let The Contents Of Your Handbag Go On Display For £400?

If you’re anything like me, the content of your handbag is sacred. If I accidentally leave the car keys in mine, and my husband says I’ll just grab them, it’s guaranteed I’ll leap up shouting no I’ll get them! Shuddering at the very thought of him rummaging through it. There’s nothing special in it, mainly it’s just general junk… but it’s my junk!

So I was interested to come across this news article where a German artist paid women to part with the contents of their bag in the name of art. Even their mobile phones!! The very idea gives me palpitations! Not only that but I would also have to part with one of my precious handbags *shudder* Then I would also have to surrender my current book, what if my kindle was in there?! Nope, not even the lure of £400 would make me part with mine. Would you do it?

Never Ending Story Kindle Cover

I will end my first ‘Monday Mashup’ with this awesome Kindle cover I came across on Etsy. How gorgeous is this? I’ve never read the book, but I do love the film :-)

Laura

A self-confessed bookworm who's favourite genres are urban fantasy, horror and a good love story with a sexy supernatural beastie. Also has a bit of a handbag fetish… actually, let's not mention the handbags; they seem to be breeding!

I love this Kindle cover! :)

I'm not sure what my opinion is about the new JK Rowling book (I'm currently re-reading the HP series). I don't think she'll be able to duplicate the phenomenon that was/is HP but she is a good writer so she shouldn't stop writing whatever she feels she should write. I will certainly be reading anything she publishes. :)

I don't fancy the new J K Rowling at all. I was reading the blurb on Amazon over the weekend and it didn't capture my imagination at all. Saying that, I was late to the Harry Potter party so, you know, I may change my mind. Wouldn't hold my breath though.

Adore that kindle cover and the cake – Happy birthday Carolyn :D

I'd take £400 for my bag – it's only got some Tesco bags for life, my keys, my cheap as chps battered old mobly and a notebook in it. Never was one for lugging loads of stuff around. Can see it wouldn't pay though if you were into your latest mobiles and what not ;)

Liking this new feature.

Lol, both my bag and the contents in it are not worth 400 pounds, so I would definitely take the money!

Happy Birthday Carolyn, hope you will have a great new year of your life.

I love the Kindle cover!! I read that book when I was a child and it was my all time favorite. I may have to check out Etsy a little more. Great find. I loved your Monday Mashup. I don't know that I could part with my purse either???

Depending on the day I might have parted with my bag for that much. Some days I carry very little and other times I have a boat load of stuff in it.

Love the kindle cover from etsy.

@Ines the kindle cover is cute isn't it :) I agree with you in the Rowling comment, she is never going to be able to repeat the HP success. Although a grown-up spinoff could have been good. I'm on the fence about whether I will read it.

@Stella the cake's incredible isn't it! It would depend on the day but not sure I would part with the contents of my handbag!

@Carmen glad you like the new feature :) my bag has a whole load of crap in it usually, but it could be important crap!! ;) plus there's a good chance it will have my kindle in it, nope couldn't do it then!

@Gemma it's a proper scary cake isn't it! Do you not like the HP books? I've read them several times…

@Sabrina it would seem I am in the minority with my sacred bag contents lol!

@Dalene a ha! Someone else who wouldn't part with their bag contents! Etsy is really quite good if you're looking for something unusual

@Bookchickcity happy, happy birthday :-D

@roro it's fun isn't it :)

@Kristin yes that's true there are days when I just run to the shops where it may be worth my while swapping my crap for £400 ;)
