DEARLY DEPARTED (Gone with the Respiration #1)
RELEASE DATE: June 2012
PUBLISHER: Corgi
GENRE: Horror, Zombie, Young Adult
ARTIST: Unknown
I parted the curtains. A skeletal face peered back at me, blackened eyes rolling in sockets seemingly unsupported by flesh. It smiled…
It should be game over for Nora Dearly when she is ambushed and dragged off into the night by the living dead. But this crack unit of teen zombies are the good guys, sent to protect Nora from the real monsters roaming the country and zeroing in on cities to swell their ranks.
Can Nora find a way to kill off the evil undead once and for all? Can she trust her protectors to resist their hunger for human flesh? And can she stop herself falling for the noble, sweet, surprisingly attractive, definitely-no-longer-breathing Bram…?
CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS
This is the new paperback cover from Corgi for the first book in Lia Habel’s Gone with the Respiration zombie series. I haven’t read this one yet, but it’s sitting on my shelf calling to me. I really love this new cover, and although I liked the hardback version, this is really more my thing and would definitely make me buy it if I saw it in the bookshop. The zombie guy’s eyes just draw me in and intrigues me. Zombie romance isn’t something I usually go in for, but after reading Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion I have a more open mind about it all.
LAURA’S THOUGHTS
Darkly sinister, this cover is very eye catching. From the scary looking man on the front (it’s the eyes), to the lady in red fleeing in the back, to the red mist. Overall it just works really well.

I really like the new cover, as it just seems to have that certain quality that would make me at least pick it up and read the back.
i’m not a zombie fan, so i wouldn’t read it, but to have an engaging cover means its one step closer for me.

One step closer is better than one step back

Carolyn will have us all zombie fans soon

There will be one book that will make me cave! Lol! Just noticed that the model on the UK hardcover looks a bit like Stefan from the vampire diaries

Yep! I’m thinking which book to start you off on right now…

I quite like the cover. I love the background more than the zombie :p and since I like books with zombies in it, I’m going to give this one a try soon.

I’m going to give it a try too – I love zombie fiction but it’s a little different seeing as it’s a romance, but I’m intrigued enough to give it a go.

The background is good isn’t it. I’m not sure I can get my head around zombie romance though.

Have to say I am drawn to the background, rather than the chap in the front. Storyline doesn’t appeal to me, but I might just have had to pick it up to see what it was all about.

I have a spare copy if you want it, but it’s with the HB cover.

Taking a second look at it, I agree the background does work better than scary zombie guy. But it does have nice sinister feel to it.

This one’s been impossible to fine in HB….I really like the background, but I’m not sure if I like the guy on the front. Considering I’ve heard it’s a romance…It’s a nice cover though. I still prefer the US version.

I like the US version, but it doesn’t really give you any idea as to what the story is about. The colouring and the girl with the brolly has great atmosphere, but I think both of the UK covers give a better indication of what the story is about going my the summary.
