The morning that the world ends, Katie is getting ready for court and housewife Jenni is taking care of her family. Less than two hours later, they are fleeing for their lives from a zombie horde. Thrown together by circumstance, Jenni and Katie become a powerful zombie-killing partnership, mowing down zombies as they rescue Jenni’s stepson, Jason, from an infected campground. They find sanctuary in a tiny, roughly fortified Texas town. There Jenni and Katie find they are both attracted to Travis, leader of the survivors; and the refugees must slaughter people they know, who have returned in zombie form.
This is the mass market paperback cover for the first book in Rhiannon Frater’s awesome zombie series. I’ve read the complete series in trade paperback and it really is one I’d recommend if you love strong female characterisation and lots of zombies. I loved all the previous covers in the series by Tor, but I do like this one a lot too. It’s very different in design but they’ve managed to capture the characters and feel of the book very well.
This is quite an unusual book cover, it looks a little comic booky, the use of yellow and read and the thick black outlines around the illustrations is really striking. It has a sense of eeriness, gore and even a touch of fun about it, in an odd way. Really well done.
