HER SKY COWBOY
(The Glorious Victorious Darcys #1)
RELEASE DATE: Nov 2012
PUBLISHER: Signet
GENRE: Steampunk Romance
ARTIST: Unknown
Amelia Darcy has no interest in marrying well. Her heart belongs to the sky and the dirigibles of brass and steel that swoop over Victorian England. But when her father, an eccentric inventor, dies, the Darcy siblings are left with scrap metal – and not a penny to their names.
Their only hope to save the family reputation and fortune is to embark on a quest to discover an invention of historical importance in honor of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. Armed with only her father’s stories of a forgotten da Vinci workshop, a mechanically enhanced falcon, and an Italian cook, Amelia takes flight for Florence, Italy.
But her quest is altered when her kitecycle crashes into the airship of ex–Air Marshal – and scandalous dime novel hero – Tucker Gentry. Tuck agrees to escort Amelia to her destination, but the two are challenged by political unrest, a devious sky pirate, and their own sizzling attraction. Soon the pair is dragged into an international conspiracy that could change the course of history… again. (Goodreads)
GEMMA’S THOUGHTS
First off, whats with the idea that all steampunk heroines dress like they should be in a saloon as a dancing girl. I know its to kind of show that its going to be sexy or steamy, but I am getting a bit sick of it. Where is the kick-ass female in trousers? And ok, we get it with the goggles too! I do like the more steampunky feel to the males gun and I like how we see Big Ben just sneaking out of the fog or smoke. I’d probably pick up this book, just to see what its about and I do like the title. I’m just tired of this whole tarty female and fully clothed dude.
CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS
I see this cover totally differently to Gemma, I actually really like it and don’t see the heroine as tarty at all. I’ve seen worse on urban fantasy covers when the chick looks a little slutty. I think this lady looks pretty gorgeous. I love her outfit. – she’s fully clothed, no bulging breasts or revealing mid-riff. I think she looks spunky and in control, although I would’ve liked to have seen her with a weapon of some kind. I also like that the guy isn’t bare chested. The steampunk feel of the cover is great and the title font works well as does the little motifs at the bottom. The background with London peeking through the fog is a nice finishing touch. Overall I think this cover is pretty fab.

I kinda like the cover – it’s *almost* there for me, but like a lot of current covers that represent a past era (or fantasy) it feels a little too modern, like she’s playing dress up at a Con rather than actually being that character. A blog I follow that writes mostly on regency and victorian novels said it’s all about the undergarments! Our modern underthings don’t show 200 year old dresses the way corsets and things do.

Huh, you learn something new every day. Which blog is that as I would like to read a bit more on it.
To be honest I think I was over harsh on the cover and really it couldn’t have been that bad if I went and pre-ordered (so much for my book buying ban!)
