KISS THE DEAD (Anita Blake #21)
RELEASE DATE: June 2012
PUBLISHER: Headline
GENRE: Urban Fantasy
ARTIST: Unknown

When a fifteen-year-old girl is abducted by vampires, it’s up to U.S. Marshal Anita Blake to find her. And when she does, she’s faced with something she’s never seen before: a terrifyingly ordinary group of people—kids, grandparents, soccer moms—all recently turned and willing to die to avoid serving a master. And where there’s one martyr, there will be more. But even vampires have monsters that they’re afraid of. And Anita is one of them… (Goodreads)

LAURA’S THOUGHTS

First impressions are that I like that this sits well with the rest of the series designs, although I started off collecting this series when the design was different which always annoys me! It’s simple but works well, the illustration of the vampire skull is well done and interesting that it almost looks scientific.  I like the twist of the lipstick kiss on the top of the skull and how it looks as though the book title is then written in lipstick also. I look forward to reading this one!

CAROLYN’S THOUGHTS

I really like this cover. I actually think all the UK covers from Headline for this series are good, they’re all different and yet keep a theme going throughout, and they’re visually very striking. I agree with Laura in that the skull has an almost scientific feel but there’s a touch of fun with the lipstick kiss on its forehead, and a sense of foreboding from the title. All in all I think cover is a fab addition to the series and it would definitely catch my eye in a book shop. I also prefer our UK covers to the US ones.

I do agree that our UK covers are alot more striking than the US covers. Like Laura, I had these books, first off in the original US covers, then some UK covers. (I got rid of them as I had gone off the series, the last full book I read being The Harlequin) They almost look like an art collection or a set of side show posters.

I definitely prefer the UK covers over the new US ones, though I really liked the old US covers. These ones are so artsy, I think they fit the books well.
