New Releases in Urban Fantasy

The following list of new releases are from UK and US publishers, however they are based on UK publication dates only. Some of the books listed have already been published in the US, and being a Brit chick, I always want to know when books will be available for  me  in the UK, which is why I compiled this list. Hope you find it useful. All summaries from Goodreads or Amazon :)

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN (Immortal Empire #1)

She’s the undead matriarch of a Britain where the Aristocracy is made up of werewolves and vampires, where goblins live underground and mothers know better than to let their children out after dark. A world where technology lives side by side with magic, where being nobility means being infected with the Plague (side-effects include undeath) and Hysteria is the popular affliction of the day. Xandra Vardan is a member of the elite Royal Guard, and it’s her duty to protect the Aristocracy. But things get complicated when her sister goes missing. Xandra will not only realise she’s the prize in a dangerous power struggle – but she’ll also uncover a conspiracy that threatens to topple the empire itself.

DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE (Smoke & Bone #1)
Laini Taylor
5 July 2012, Hodder (PB Edition)

Errand requiring immediate attention. Come. The note was on vellum, pierced by the talons of the almost-crow that delivered it. Karou read the message. ‘He never says please’, she sighed, but she gathered up her things. When Brimstone called, she always came. In general, Karou has managed to keep her two lives in balance. On the one hand, she’s a seventeen-year-old art student in Prague; on the other, errand-girl to a monstrous creature who is the closest thing she has to family. Raised half in our world, half in ‘Elsewhere’, she has never understood Brimstone’s dark work – buying teeth from hunters and murderers – nor how she came into his keeping. She is a secret even to herself, plagued by the sensation that she isn’t whole. Now the doors to Elsewhere are closing, and Karou must choose between the safety of her human life and the dangers of a war-ravaged world that may hold the answers she has always sought.

GRAVE MEMORY (Alex Craft #3)
Kalayna Price
5 July 2012, Berkley UK

As a Grave Witch, Alex solves murders by raising the dead – an ability that comes at a cost, and after her last few cases, that cost is compounding. But her magic isn’t the only thing causing havoc in her life. While she’s always been on friendly terms with Death himself, things have recently become a whole lot more close and personal. Then there’s her sometime partner, agent Falin Andrews, who is under the glamour of the Winter Queen. To top everything off, her best friend has been forever changed by her time spent captive in Faerie. But the personal takes a backseat to the professional when a string of suicides occur in Nekros City and Alex is hired to investigate. The shades have no memory of the days leading up to their brutal endings, so despite the very public apparent suicides, this is murder. But what kind of magic can overcome the human will to survive? And why do the shades lack the memory of their deaths? Searching for the answer might mean Alex won’t have a life to remember at all . . .

But she’ll also have to fight her own insecurities, as well as the doubts of those who don’t think she can live up to her new role as Champion – the most powerful supernatural leader of all…

Pat on the back for me. Out of all the books, I’ve only got one on pre-order and that is God Save The Queen. *smug grin*. I am managing to resist the temptation of a couple of the others *cough*Thirteen*cough*
