This month started off with me falling into another one of my reading slumps. I managed to get through SACRIFICIAL MAGIC by Stacia Kane, which was good but I have a few issues with it, especially Chess! But then I just couldn’t get into anything else and the days flew by with me not reading anything. Then I started to get caught up in the buzz for E. L. James’ Fifty Shades trilogy (FIFTY SHADES OF GREY, FIFTY SHADES DARKER and FIFTY SHADES FREED), and once Laura had started it and said it was un-put-downable, I knew I had to give them a go. Luckily I was sent all three unsolicited for review. Well, all I can say is that I haven’t done anything else but read over the past few days.

I will say that the writing is quite repetitive, with words and phrases being used far too much. That aside, James sure knows how to tell a story! I loved the evolving romance between Ana Steele and Christian Grey and I’m sad the series is over. But these books are AMAZINGLY good, completely addictive and pulled me out of my funk – reviews will be coming soon. So the Fifty Shades trilogy is my recommendation of the month!
LAURA
I’ve actually read some really good books this month from SACRIFICIAL MAGIC by Stacia Kane, to DEFINITELY DEAD by Charlaine Harris which happen to be among my favourite urban fantasy series. And while I enjoyed both, I had issues with both of them. I thoroughly enjoyed UNDER THE NEVER SKY by Veronica Rossi. This book totally took me by surprise, what a beautiful love story, I read it in less than two days. But my book of the month has to be FIFTY SHADES OF GREY by E. L. James. Wow! You can’t have escaped the hype about this one, and I tried to resist. Then, when about the fourth person told me I *had* to read it, including a friend who doesn’t read very much I knew I had to pick it up. I’m so glad I did, it is utterly compelling and addictive. I quite simply could not put it down. I highly recommend it!
REBECCA
I returned to reading The Morganville Vampires series by Rachel Caine this month, starting off with LAST BREATH (book #11) and I’m currently reading BLACK DAWN (book #12). This series may not be the best series I’ve ever read, but the characters always manage to pull me in and I always end up devouring the books really quickly. At the recommendation of Vickie and Gemma, I have also read DARK LOVER by J.R. Ward this month, and I have to say that I really enjoyed it! Despite a few little stumbles near the middle, I ended up growing to love some of the characters, and am definitely considering picking up the next books in the series! I think I am going to be joining Vickie and Gemma’s appreciation for The Black Dagger Brotherhood, and would definitely recommend the first book in the series to get you hooked!

VICKIE
What a great month. I have really enjoyed reading this month, and have revisited some favourite authors, and found some new ones.
SHALADORS LADY and THE SHADOW QUEEN by Anne Bishop – great. I love her fresh take on powers and how different people use them. So pleased I still have a few books to go before I have caught up on the series. I managed to pick up an e-novella by an old favourite of mine, Kresley Cole: THE WARLORD WANTS FOREVER it was, as ever, funny, heartwarming, and just brilliant. I always rave on about this series (sorry girls) but that’s just because it’s sooo funny!!
I started Archer’s Mate by Moira Rogers, only to be interrupted by FIFTY SHADES OF GREY by E.L. JAMES. I LOVE this book. It’s brilliant. The writing is a bit iffy at times, but I love the storyline and am now ploughing my way through the remaining two books in the Fifty Shades series. Definitely recommend these!!

GEMMA
This month has been a pretty mixed one, in terms of books. I even went through a bit of a reading slump after having read two less than steller books. Luckily one book managed to brush all that away. That book is FIREBRAND by Gillian Philip. For a book pigeon-holed as a YA, it really does blow everything out of the water. I can’t praise the book highly enough. So much so, I am hoping to read the second book Bloodstone very soon. The other book that also rated highly for me this month was BORN OF NIGHT by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I had stopped reading her Dark Hunter books, but this was a promising start to her League series.

The Fifty Shades books are really so addictive. When I first read the first book I just planned to read some pages, but then I had to read the whole book asap. And then of course the other two books.
Born of Night also sounds like a book I might give a try.
Hope you all will have a great new month.

The Fifty Shades are uber addictive.. I am currently trying to make my way through Fifty Shades Darker, but the kids keep nagging to go out… I think I have stalled them for as long as I can and am going to have to put it down. Darn it!!

Yes Vickie and Gemma, I blame you guys entirely!!! Going to cost me quite a bit for the remaining 9 books in the series
And so much love for the 50 Shades books going on here, I might have to check them out, but they aren’t what I would normally read, so I’m having doubts!

I’m still not convinced by 50 shades. Started the first one and not entirely bought into it.
