MONDAY MASHUP: Anne Rice & Erotica, Jesse Petersen New Book Deal, Tweet Your Way Into A Book & Zombify Yourself!
Welcome to our new feature where we talk about random things we’ve seen around the blogosphere. It could be an interesting article, a book trailer, maybe a fun piece of news we feel you should know about, and maybe even a stylish pair of shoes or handbag we’ve seen (if Laura has her way!). Basically it’s a bit of a mashup! Enjoy….

Anne Rice Speaks About Women & Erotica
I admit defeat, Fifty Shades is sneaking its way into Monday Mashup again! But this time via Anne Rice. Rice is just about to re-release an erotic novel she previously published under the pseudonym of A.N. Roquelaure. THE CLAIMING OF SLEEPING BEAUTY which is a spicy retelling of yes you guessed it, the fairytale classic SLEEPING BEAUTY. At the same time Rice speaks up about a woman’s right to read and enjoy erotic fiction. I have spoken in a previous Monday Mashup about my dislike of the title of ‘Mummy Porn’ for Fifty Shades, as I find it slightly unsavory and demeaning. And Rice touches on this, commenting on the fact that there is a disparity between what it is acceptable for men and women to read.
Rice pointed out that men have always enjoyed all kinds of pornography, and asked: “How can it be wrong for women to have the same right? We’re sexual beings! And fantasy is where we can do the things we can’t do in ordinary life.”
[...] “years ago because I could not find an authentic erotica in bookstores”, [...] people have come “out of the closet” as enjoyers of erotica.
I think to a certain extent Rice is right we may be starting to see a revolution as erotica and romance becomes more mainstream, and hopefully this means that the media will give these popular genres more credence. I may have to pick up Rice’s book, although I guess I really must read INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE first!! What about you fancy giving it a whirl or maybe picked it up already?

Jesse Pettersen Signs A New Book Deal
Great news for fans of Jesse Peterson, the author has signed a new book deal with Pocket Star. The author had sadly dropped by Orbit, so we were super excited to see she got a new deal here at BCC. Carolyn has reviewed several books from Living With The Dead series and thoroughly enjoyed them. CLUB MONSTROSITY the first book in her new series, about not zombies, but monsters will be available in spring 2013. Congratulations Jesse, we can’t wait!

Tweet Your Way Into A Book?
Comedian Miranda Hart is working on a new book with Hodder and Stoughton called IS IT JUST ME and she is asking twitter followers to contribute. All you need to do is tweet your must embarrassing stories to @NoItsUsToo or use the hashtag #isitjustme and the top stories will be included in an ebook. Dare you? I think I might be too chicken! I could use the one with where I thought my friend was selling her *ahem* urine for money (don’t ask!), or perhaps when they had to close the whole ring road for me in town, hmm or maybe not! And yes these are true stories…

Zombify Yourself!
This is one for our very own Zombie Queen Carolyn. Artist Rob Sacchetto has a super cool website where you can send in a picture of yourself and he zombifies you! They are wicked gory and fun. Zombies fans simply must check out the site. I think us BCC reviewers should get it done for Halloween ;-D

Laura, you don’t need to read Interview with the Vampire to read the sleeping Beuaty trilogy. Yup! I have read books 1 and 2. I coudn’t finish book 3. Warning though, 50 shades seems really rather tame compared to these. The books should come with a fire extinguisher at times! lol!
As for Jenna Petersons Zombie books, I made a promise to Carolyn I would read a zombie book. Its coming close between The First Days and Married with Zombies….

Oh I realise I don’t need to read Interview With A Vampire as a pre-cursor I just meant that it was higher up my priority reading ladder
But if they’re that spicy I may struggle!
I think I promised to read a zombie book too *gulp*

Lol! Honestly the two series are just polar opposites apart. The way in which the Prince awakens Sleeping Beauty is….erm….unusual. Lets just say that! lol!
I’m going to give a zombie book a whirl, just to see what its like. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
(Thuogh I may need Alcide to snuggle into if I get too scared!)

Ok I think I’m scared about Sleeping Beauty now!!

LOL Love the zombie portraits!
Interesting regarding Anne Rice, I must admit I’m tempted to read the Beauty series. Think I’ll wait until they’re available on Kindle. Think they are being reissued by Penguin.
I’m really chuffed for Jesse Petersen. I really enjoyed her zombie series, so I’m looking forward to reading whatever comes next.

I’m intrigued too about all these comments about the Sleeping Beauty books, but a bit scared about how rude they’re meant to be! Maybe we should try it as our next joint review after 50 Shades?

As someone who HAS read all three of the Beauty books. *Ahem* Yes. Saucy is not the word! You’ll certainly never look at horses without having a little chuckle in the future! From what I hear, and I haven’t read them, 50 shades is very VERY tame compared to it. When people have described 50 Shades to me and said it’s the sauciest thing they’ve read I’ve asked them if they have read The Beauty Trilogy and described it… yeah. It’s pretty full on and right from the get go when they … er… get going!

I completly agree with you Carmen. They certainly opened my eyes! lol! Didn’t really like last one

I’ll DEFINTELY be reading the Sleeping Beauty series… I read somewhere on a blog that Fifty is nothing compared to Ann Rice’s series,at the time I did go to check it out and they weren’t available so I’m glad they’re being released again.
I LOVE those zombie images!… Jesse Petersen WIN!!… this is great news

The zombie portraits are so fun aren’t they?! And definitely great news about Jesse Petterson.
Sleeping Beauty I’m tempted to give it a go after what everyone has been saying, but I’m not really good at full on erotica. I might cheeks might rupture I’ll be blushing so hard!

I read the first book of Rice’s “Sleeping Beauty” trilogy. It’s fine enough, if you enjoy non-consentual sex acts, slavery, lots of spanking, and entire chapters of long-winded characters putting on their Exposition Hats. I have absolutely no problem with a porno revolution for women (Rice is right in that women are sexual creatures as much as men are), and those books are certainly pornographic, but from where I’m standing, they were also really really bad.
