Deadlock by Moira Rogers

Deadlock is the third book in Moira Rogers’ Southern Arcana series, our hero is Alec Thompson, we’ve met him in the previous books he is warlock and Jackson’s partner. For anyone new to the series, I personally think you would be better starting from the beginning and working your way through. But enjoy, this is a great paranormal series.
It is one of those romances that manages to mix a fantastic love story with really gritty plot-lines. Rogers isn’t afraid to deliver shockers, kill off, or badly injure a character if it’s required. Which is just how I like it. I love the thrills, spills and shocks. As a lover of urban fantasy, I enjoy the paranormal romances that bridge the two genres.
I adored Alec! There is something powerfully handsome about him. He has dedicated his life to protecting and helping those in need or shapeshifters weaker than himself. He is reassuringly sexy in his confidence and belief in his own strength and abilities. I’ve definitely got a soft spot for him!
So our heroine had to be good for me to like her! Luckily she was… Exotic, intelligent, brave. Carmen is a doctor recently transferred to the supernatural clinic. A psychic empath with a shifter father, family politics and dark magic suddenly blow out of control and get her in a whole load of trouble of Alec can help her with.
We see a lot more of the wolf politics that we’ve seen in previous novels and Alec and Carmen end up at the heart of it. The corrupt system ruling the werewolves has grown more difficult and intolerable with each book, and the new generation have grown more and more frustrated. This leads to a superb climax and a very surprising development. I really cannot say anymore, you need to read it for yourself
The first half of the book was slower on the action. It focused primarily on Carmen’s family and predicament, the burgeoning chemistry and love story between Alec and Carmen. Which meant most of the action and significant plot developments seem to be compacted into the latter pages. These pages were a thrilling ride. It didn’t mean that the first half of the book was boring, not in the least, just more steady, and the romance really does grow with sizzling intensity.
This is without talking about the developments to some of the other well known characters in the series. Andrew and Kat, it’s just so painful to watch, thank God their book is next! Carmen’s brothers are great new additions to the cast, we of course see Mackenzie and Jackson again, as well as guest appearances from Nicole and Michelle to name a few. I enjoyed their stories as much as the main, and hate to say it again but honestly Kat and Andrew, I really can’t wait….
I thoroughly enjoyed Deadlock, the political manoeuvrings and developments are really significant in this book. Alec and Carmen are a super couple, Alec a completely awesome hero. The ending was a roller coaster, hold on to your hats! And fans of Kat and Andrew hold onto your hearts!
