EVERY WITCH WAY BUT DEAD (The Hollows Series #3)
by Kim Harrison
All of the books in this series are brilliant, but this one stood out for me as it’s the first time an author has killed a beloved character so early in the series. I had to make sure I hadn’t missed a bit and hoped that they would come back. They didn’t and for me, that’s why it’s my number one.

OBSIDIAN BUTTERFLY (Anita Blake Series #9)
by Laurell K Hamilton
This was my first real UF book. I picked it up, not realising it was one of the books from a continuing series. I was hooked for it had everything I loved. Killer plot, Vampires and a Kick-Ass Heroine!

PROVEN GUILTY (The Dresden Files #8)
by Jim Butcher
Another game changer of a book. It was a major change in terms of storyline and it went from more of a monster of the week, to a full on war. The stakes were really high for our favourite wizard and the conclusion is explosive.

SINS OF THE SON (The Grigori Legacy Series #2)
by Linda Poitevin
Many series suffer from second book syndrome and to be honest I didn’t have much hope after a lacklustre beginning. I’m glad to have read this book as number 3 is now on my must buy list. It was such a tight plot that I was breathless at the end of it.

DEADWORLD (Jackie Rutlidge Series #1)
by J. N. Duncan
I originally got this as a freebie off of Amazon and it had been sitting on my kindle for ages, before Carolyn asked me to read it. I could kick myself as this is a great book from a less well known author. Duncan manages to balance action and character development with great ease. A must for Urban Fantasy fans.

HOUNDED (The Iron Druid Series #1)
by Kevin Hearne
If anyone is a contender for Harry Dresdens crown in the male Urban Fantasy crowd, Atticus and his faithful dog Oberon are it. It’s a fun read and I loved the easy banter between the two characters. Hearne has an ease in his writing that is joy to read. Another on my must buy list.

7
THE SCENT OF SHADOWS (The Zodiac Series #1)
by Vicki Petterson
The start of this series is something a bit different. The comic book/Superhero slant is really interesting. The plot is intricit and the characters are many shades of grey. I do like the character of Joanna Archer. She is a bit different to the others out there. I really need to read the rest.

EVE OF DARKNESS (Marked Series #1)
by S. J Day
This takes the tale of Caine and Able and turns it on its head. I couldn’t put the book down for it was one of those that you were desperate to find out what happens next. The conclusion leaves you wanting more and even now I don’t know who I want Eve to end up with, if anyone

BLACK MAGIC SANCTION (The Hollows Series #8)
by Kim Harrison
Another Hollows book and even more tragedy is in store for Rachel and her friends. The series seemed to be going nowhere fast, but this book was the kick up the bum it needed. It’s a rollercoaster ride from the first page to the last. I can’t wait to see where the series goes next.

DEAD TO THE WORLD (Sookie Stackhouse Series#4)
by Charlaine Harris
The book that convinced me to join team Eric. This just an amazing addition to the series, with amnesiac Eric and the whole witch subplot. Anyone who has watched season 4 of True Blood, needs to read this book and see how much the show writers messed up an excellent 4th book.

This is a selection of books that while good, just didn’t manage to scrape into the top ten
Darkfever (Fever Series #1) by Karen Marie Monning – I loved the beginning of the series and this was an altogether different read.
Midnights Daughter (Dorina Basarab #1) by Karen Chance – For me this series is much better than her other series and I do like the lead female in this better.
Kitty and the Midnight Hour (Kitty Norville #1) by Carrie Vaughn – I loved how this character wasn’t wanting to be the beta or mate to the alpha. It was a fresh take on the whole shifter genre
Destined for an Early Grave (Night Huntress #4) by Jeaniene Frost – The ending to this book was explosive and had me wondering where the story would go next. Plus Bones!

wowser! We have a lot of books in common…although some may not hit my top 10 they were the ones of the series I liked the best.
Are you my evil UF loving twin?

Lol! Its harder to pick books rather than series, so I took the difficult road. All the books mentioned above cemented my love for each series.

I am totally fickle…there is always one standout book in a series for me. I liked the Dorina Basarab series…her other series annoyed me….despite reading all the books in it!

Thank Cripes I’m not the only one. The Cassandra Chase books started out ok, but by the end of the second book I was confused. Nope, I agree with youthe Dorina Basarab books are much better

Yeah plus in the Cassandra Chase books is that she is ALWAYS getting chased and beaten up. I don’t think she gets more than 5 minutes of sleep in between getting chased, mooning over WhatshisnameTheMage and get the sexy on with WhatshisnameTheVampire.
Dorina is much more kick ass.

Some nice choices up there
I admit, that after you advised me to get Vicki Pettersons book I was a tad sceptical because I HATE the cover…but you were right, it was very good, I’ll be looking out for the others
However, I don’t think Kim Harrison’s would have made my list…though I do like most of the books.
Plus HOUNDED!!! Feeling the Atticus and Oberon love over here
I’ve read them all and can’t wait for the next one
Awesome list!

These are my fave books, rather than series. have to admit Harrisons books kind of go on a rollercoaster.
Glad you took my advice and read petersons book. the cover doesn’t reflext how awsome the book is.
I needed to get caught up on the iron druid books

I loved Hounded but the series did a huge landslide for me when a certain religious figure started to make an appearance!
Reply
ssshhhh! i haven’t read that far yet!!!
Reply
hence my not saying who it was. Could be very well be Ron Hubbard I was so subtle
Reply
If it is ROn Hubbard I’m going to cry!
Reply
you won’t hear it from me

Ohh, THAT religious figure you mean….thingy….and then he also meets that other one too….and then thingy keeps cropping up and then with the big you know what!! I can hardly keep track :p
Don’t worry Gemma, I wouldn’t actually spoil it…though there is this one bit….

ROFL! You two are so funny

I’ve only read 1 book out of your 10! I really need to read more, why did I wait until I turned 30 to start reading again.
I’ll be adding a few of these to my wishlists! Although I’ve already purchased Deadworld after your fantastic review.
Reply
Ooh let me know which books you add.

I can’t argue with the first three on your list. The rest I haven’t read, but they’re going on the TBR list. Thanks!

Well i hope you enjoy the rest and see why I picked them as part of my top ten UF books.
